The forecasts said this storm was going to pass south of us, but it's 16.5°F (-8.6°C) and snowing pretty good.[12:15] I've just been out to clear the sidewalks. It's a powdery snow (so far) that sweeps off easily. If there were any wind, it would be blowing all over. There's quite a bit of traffic out; people are not hunkered in.[19:30] It's been snowing all afternoon. Traffic dropped off mid-afternoon. We're expecting 4-8" (10-20cm), and I heard earlier that the VA/NC border area had gotten 16" (40cm) - so it is worse farther south.
I was going to update earlier, but I ended up on the phone helping my Mom with her WiFi. We were beating on the Airport configuration for a while, with the complication of her having a later version of the OS than I do so things don't look the same, and I can't count on her to tell me the relevant bits of what's on her screen. (Don't even think about trying to type a 64-character WPA key.) I eventually had her power-cycle her DSL modem and router, and everything started working again.
This evening's BBC Early Music Show (
Renaissance Polyphony) has been particularly nice.
