this is where I start using 4-letter words....

I've had favorable things to say about the free online photo-hosting site I've been using, atpic.com - until today. My browser opened its windows and tabs from last week, and one tab that should have had a photo said "Oooops no pic 1012091". Navigating around showed a lot of nothing, although the site appeared to be up. So I logged in, and got this message:
WARNING: unfortunately this account was on a server whose disk crashed on 2009/01/31. Your documents have been lost but you can upload them again. We plan to setup a backup process but as long as the site remains free, there will be no backup.

I can't complain much because they're free, but I'm not going to rush to upload my pictures again. Creating albums is tedious. (I had a separate album for each day's pictures.) Uploading pictures takes a while. (Although that can be done in large batches.) Adding metadata (titles, descriptions, tags, GPS, etc) takes far too long - so I'd never gotten around to doing it for most of the pictures I had uploaded.

There wasn't even a notice sent about losing the data. I wonder how many other people were affected?

This is going to leave a lot of broken links in my past blog entries.
