We finally replaced the
car battery this evening. We got a battery with a 3-year warranty, which I guess says something optimistic about our attitude towards this 16-year-old car. We used one of
dglenn's old batteries as a trade in, since it was even deader than our Mazda's 10-year-old battery. This also meant we didn't have to get our old battery out of the Mazda before we went shopping. The Mazda had been parked on the street for a week (since the painters started on the carport last Friday), and we finally gave it a jump-start from the van this morning so we could move it back into the (now clean and empty) carport.
We did some browsing in the auto-parts store and saw several new LED products that might be fun on my bike. (I already have 12-volt batteries for my lights.)
anniemal thought the illuminated skulls were particularly appropriate for cigarette-lighter sockets. We did get a Black and Decker
Bright Bar - 26 LEDs run off a rechargeable battery. It might be good for camping, although the run time is low at 4/7 hours full/reduced brightness. That would probably last a couple of nights, like
baitcon , but not a week or two, like
Pennsic. But the nice surprise is that the charger/adapter puts out 12 volts, so this should also run off a car battery. (The plug/socket is odd, but I think Radio Shack carries it.) We take a big car battery to Pennsic, for recharging batteries for laptops, cameras, MP3 players, flashlights, etc.
anniemal's been doing a lot of cooking this week, more cooking than we've been eating. And she's been gardening. She planted a lot of the seedlings. Since we've had so little rain this month (our 4th-driest May on record) she also has to water a lot.
