Republican "Family Values"

I'm pretty accepting about kinks - among adults, and possibly even among younger people, but not between adults and children.
From ABC News: In Congress, Rep. Foley (R-FL) was part of the Republican leadership and the chairman of the House caucus on missing and exploited children. He crusaded for tough laws against those who used the Internet for sexual exploitation of children. .... But, according to several former congressional pages, the congressman used the Internet to engage in sexually explicit exchanges.

Part of Florida Rep. Mark Foley's exchange with an underage Congressional page:
Foley (7:47:11 PM): good so your getting horny
Page (7:47:29 PM): lol...a bit
Foley (7:48:00 PM): did you spank it this weekend yourself
Page (7:48:04 PM): no
Page (7:48:16 PM): been too tired and too busy
Foley (7:48:33 PM): wow...
Foley (7:48:34 PM): i am never to busy haha
....
Foley (7:54:31 PM): where do you unload it
Page (7:54:36 PM): towel
Foley (7:54:43 PM): really
Foley (7:55:02 PM): completely naked?
Page (7:55:12 PM): well ya
Foley (7:55:21 PM): very nice
Page (7:55:24 PM): lol
Foley (7:55:51 PM): cute butt bouncing in the air
....
Foley (7:56:51 PM): hmm
Foley (7:56:57 PM): sound inetersting
Foley (7:57:05 PM): i always use lotion and the hand
Foley (7:57:10 PM): but who knows
Page (7:57:24 PM): i dont use lotion...takes too much time to clean up
I hope the silver lining from this includes a huge backlash against the Republican party. (Even if the voters can't bother to think, maybe they will react.) Given that others in the Republican power structure certainly must have known some part of what was going on, a widespread reaction is deserved. Once again we see that the Republicans' family values are just rhetoric and posturing. Say what you will about Bill Clinton, Chelsea beats the pants off the Bush party girls. I think the electorate need to pay more attention to how good a job the candidates do in their own homes before we put them in a position to do a job on ours. This is not to say that I think Democratic candidates are better people than Republican candidates. It's just that the Democrats don't claim to have the moral high ground with God's approval. If the voters paid more attention, they'd realize the Republicans aren't anywhere near that moral high ground they claim.

I used to think the media scrutiny into candidates' personal lives was way too invasive. Now I'm not so sure. I don't need to know their preferred masturbation techniques, but I wouldn't want representatives who were fantasizing about my kids (if I had kids).

child abuse, republicans, elections, hypocrisy, politics
