I figured out a good way to compare my Dreamwidth and LiveJournal tags, looking for things to clean up. DW had 991 tags, and LJ had 1008 - both with limits of 1000. (So how does that work?) I was able to identify the tags that exist only on LJ, and then look at their postings and decide whether to delete the tag, replace it with something else, or keep it.
DELETE:
- collage (userpic collage)
- dzongkha (microsoft; the national language of the Kingdom of Bhutan, finally supported by MSWindows)
- efile (taxes)
- fod (??)
- ifile (taxes)
- inova (blood donation)
- kentucky (affordable internet)
- lustatus (unix; a Solaris command, LiveUpgrade STATUS, not Lust At Us)
RENAME:
- date → time
- deglenn → dglenn (which should also be renamed on DW and LJ)
- dreamwidth → dw
- plane → driving
KEEP:
- janome (sewing machines)
- genetalia
- pioneer (stereos)
There's tags used only once or twice on DW that will be clean-up targets soon.
I wonder why I have tags used more on LJ than DW? All the postings on LJ should have been imported to DW.

It occurs to me now that I could probably automate this tag comparison, using lynx (text browser) to get the lists of tags.
(Hmmm, not entirely - if you're not logged in, I don't think you can see the tags/counts of non-public entries.)
