I haven't decided yet how I'm voting Tuesday.
We have 14 candidates on the ballot. 8 9 of those have withdrawn.
(Presumably, they are not marked out on the ballots. It will be interesting to see how many of them still get votes.)Candidates (Order below is how it appears on the
Ballot. Order was determined at a drawing conducted by the State Board of Elections)
Cory Booker
Julián Castro
Bernie Sanders
Elizabeth Warren
Marianne Williamson
Michael Bennet
Joseph R. Biden
Amy Klobuchar
Tulsi Gabbard
Deval Patrick
Pete Buttigieg
Andrew Yang
Tom Steyer
Michael R. Bloomberg

Any registered voter can vote. Virginia is an Open Primary state meaning that we do not register by party.
Only the Democratic Party will be holding a primary on March 3rd.
The Republican Party of Virginia will select their nominee at a state convention in May.
• All regular polling places are open.
• Polls are open 6am - 7pm. Any voter in line by 7pm will be allowed to vote.
I haven't seen any TV ads; I haven't been watching TV.
I haven't heard any radio ads; I listen to only public radio (NPR, CBC, BBC).
I haven't seen or heard any of the debates; I often hadn't known when they were.
I don't read any magazines. (Do candidates use magazine ads? Lead time too long?)
We dropped the newspaper subscription years ago.
I haven't seen anything that may have come in the (USPS) mail (yet).
I haven't received any political email. (Hmmm, I used to get political spam* from other states.... )
I haven't been on Facebook in months.
I have multiple layers of ad blocking (and tracker blocking) on my primary web browser. (Most people's Internet is very different from mine.)
I have no non-work apps on my cellphone.
I don't answer the (land-line) phone unless I recognize the caller-ID.
*If you don't know I don't live in your district, your email is spam. (If you do know I don't live in your district, your email is spam.)
Tuesday 01:11
And we're down to 5 candidates for today's primary; Amy Klobuchar has withdrawn.
The candidates who have withdrawn may have a lot of absentee votes. ☹
This would be a good use of ranked-choice voting; those ballots could count for someone.
We're expecting mild temperatures and some periods of rain today.
Tuesday 14:30
Mira Shomali I voted on the way to work, as is my custom. My precinct was not crowded, but there was a light, steady stream of people coming and going. The Democratic Presidential Primary was the only thing on the ballot, and assuming you had decided how you were voting before you got there, it didn't take long to mark one candidate and feed your ballot into the scanner.
Bonus: it was sunny when I came out. The afternoon's weather was better than the dreary forecast.
Wednesday 01:48
It was raining when I left the office, so I went back into the garage and checked the weather. It looked like it would be gone in 20 minutes. I went back to my desk and worked a little more. The ride home was VERY windy. (Headwinds, of course.) But it wasn't raining.
I didn't get to hear any of the Super-Tuesday returns coverage. There was a lot of stupid at work - when I was leaving the first time, and after I got home.
