Pennsic XLVIII, War Week, Thorsday

Aug 08, 2019 06:10

Tho Aug 8 06:10:55 EDT 2019

Awake at 06:00 again. ☹ I'm going to try for more sleep....

Thorsday 07:21

I gave up on trying to sleep at 07:00.

The Known World Choirs dress rehearsal is at 12:00, so the 10:00-12:00 block is open today. I can come back to camp for lunch, and skip making sandwiches this morning. I'm going to try for a 09:00-11:00 class making wood-framed wax tablets; I've never managed to get into it before. I'll get there early, and eat Pop-Tarts while I review my music.

I finally got into the wax-tablet class. I was not even half-way done at the end of our 2 hours, but some people finished. The project is not complicated, and I could finish it at home.
I got to the Sicily class a little late. It was one of those classes covering a lot of time and distance, and all the names blend together. (Erin was there.)
The Lithuania instructor was a no-show. ☹

The rehearsals went well. I am aware of lots of mistakes I made, as is the case every year. ☹ The concert should be good tonight. KWRE starts at 18:00. I'm going to find somewhere to review music until then.

This class will focus on Lucan's epic Civil War that he wrote during the rule of Emperor Nero. Used to depict a scathing critique of Nero, Lucan exemplifies the stoic philosophy of a good death in his epic poem. He accomplished this by introducing the necromantic witch Erichtho, whose rituals brought back the unwilling souls of the dead for the use of divination. The class will discuss stoic philosophy and the madness of Nero's reign to better understand why men like Lucan were trying to hold tight to stoic ideologies.

Freyasday 00:27

The concerts went well. Lots of room for improvement, as always, but these are groups that don't exist outside of Pennsic, and they have only 3 (KWRE), 4 (Chorulus), or 7 (KWC) rehearsals. Chorulus is frickin' amazing for 4.5 hours of rehearsal, and so is the KWC for 14 hours. I have a recording. (Needs editing, but so do many previous recordings.)

Erin and I spent the evening chatting and imbibing after the concert.

Back at Caer Edgemere, dinner was ziti. And there were fresh-baked cookies.

I have added the .wav and mp3 recording of tonight's concerts (KWRE, Children's Choir, Youth Choir, Chorulus, KWC) to the website, and tagged/captioned today's photos.

Freyasday 02:41

The recording is good.
I'm trekking off to the showers.
Laptop at 29%.
