Since I seem to strain so many brain cells in the morning trying to figure out which necktie to wear with my outfit before I bike to work, I decided to make life easier on myself. I brought two dozen ties into work (in a carrying bag), and stashed them in my cubicle area. Since I already store my work shoes at work, I can get dressed here at work at the beginning of the Working Day (I ride my bicycle to work, so getting dressed up for work at home is not a feasible option). I figured that 24 ties would provide enough of a variety to prevent me from wearing the same ones repeatedly.
I have a strong feeling that my cubicle area is turning into a vanity closet of sorts. Maybe I should ask my boss if I can get a mini-dresser to stick underneath my desk, along with a vanity mirror. And if I play my cards right, I might talk my boss into letting me set up a mini wine bar in my cubicle area.... :o
Even with two dozen ties being relocated at work, I still have other ties that are sitting in the closet at home. I suspect that I now have a stash of "weekday ties" and "weekend ties" in my collection, just like how I have "weekday hair products" and "weekend hair products" in my repertoire. I am so vain. And now that weather is becoming cooler, I suspect I could dress up and wear my "weekend ties" to social occasions. What would Nick Rhodes do?
I felt like a moderately-powered Middle Manager earlier this afternoon while making a chai latte run to Starbucks during my afternoon break (thank goodness that my boss gave me a gift card!). Shiny work shoes and a necktie belied the fact that I am an hourly-waged cubicle monkey. Looks can be deceiving....
Payday Friday is tomorrow. Yay!!!!!
