Most of today was spent running errands. I took the bus and the streetcar to my new fitness center so I could drop off my new cross-training shoes, low-cut athletic socks, shirts, shorts, deodorant, hair paste, and other essentials in my new locker at the center. It's amazing how much stuff can fit inside a 12" x 12" x 12" locker. Hopefully I shall start working out this week. I am very excited about the new changes that I want to implement in my life.
I was thinking about the main reasons why I want to improve my fitness and health, and came up with the top five reasons why I want to work out....
1. I want to improve my upper body muscular stamina and strength--this will come in handy when I am playing keyboards (especially the weighted keys).
2. I want to improve my coordination and dexterity--this, along with practicing keyboards regularly, should help reduce the wrong notes and rhythmic errors when I am playing keyboards.
3. I want to improve the explosiveness of my leg muscles when I bicycle. This will come in handy when I am negotiating uphill climbs on my bike.
4. I want to improve my overall stamina.
5. I want to reduce the fat around my stomach. I'm not getting any younger, and I refuse to have my girth increased, necessitating in the need to acquire new pants.
Hopefully I shall succeed in my efforts to improve my overall health. I've never had a fitness center membership before, and this territory is uncharted.
The rest of today was kind of a blah. I did acquire a long coat at Nordstrom Rack (I didn't much care for waiting in long cashier line, but that's what I get for shopping at this time of the year). Now I have a warm coat to wear in NYC next weekend, as for nice occasions here in Portland during this winter. I'm in sort of a down mood right now. Hopefully the blah blues will subside.
