I have to add: has anyone else noticed that she is seriously channelling Shakespear's Sister?
I don't know if this is technically a good thing or just shockingly awful. But I always did like Shakespear's sister.
In non-Jessie J related news, one of my favourite Christmas presents was Underworld's 'Barking'. Maybe it was a reaction to my previous job/the relief of leaving, but I did not buy one single record last year. Not something I'm proud of, especially as I'm aware I missed a lot of good shit (feel free to recommend any necessaries that I should belatedly buy) but I just needed to be nowhere near music for a while. Anyway. It's pretty great. There's a bizarrely "feelgood" (having now used that word I'd like to have it erased from the English language thankyouplz) track on there, but for the most part it's otherwise superb. It's comforting that they're still able to make up sounds I've never heard before, and squelch them into loops and samples that just sound like Underworld and nothing else. They're addictive like no other band is. 'Bird 1' is awesome, and 'Always Loved A Film' is going on repeat 'til I can't ever listen to it again.
