Things this week:

- My tax situation this month is looking much less frightening than I feared. When I was at Bush Hall I was 'self employed' (only as far as tax went, i.e. me having to pay my own employers' NI contributions, it didn't give me any of the other freedoms of self-employment) so I had to submit self-assessment forms for 2008-09 and, this month, 09-10.

Last year I had to pay out a 4-figure sum and I was so dogdamned scared there'd be another huge chunk due this month. I know they took some of this year's upfront last year, but it turns out they took what they assumed would be this year's full amount! Which totally sucked last year, what with payment plans and borrowing money from parents and Mike having to pay all our utility bills, but it does mean I don't have to pay it all over again now. I still have to fill out the form (gnnnghhjglrgkjldsfkgbslkhglkdsblkdshn) and will probably owe about 2 months' worth of tax but that's better than what it could have been.

- I am massively puzzled by, and strangely drawn to, Do It Like A Dude. Why is Jessie J singing about mandem and doing it like a brother? It is at once completely and not at all convincing. Every time I look at her I am convinced she must have been in Eastenders at some point, although I haven't sat through an episode of Eastenders since I was about 14 so I'm not sure where my certainty comes from.

- I seem to have become the resident IT support girl at work. Which is hilarious. But no-one else knows where to begin with setting up new VOIP lines and new computers and new printers and getting everything networked and setting up new email accounts and the like so it all keeps being shuffled my way.
