I was bored and trying to think of something to do instead of passing out in a nap when I decided to start looking into classes to take in the fall. I figured that I could get away with not taking classes this summer and stay in my grace period for my student loans and it seems so far so good. I don't think I can get away with not taking any classes in the fall.
Although you never know. This is the local community college we're talking about. They're not exactly what you'd call organized or efficient. As it was I was thinking that there was something funny going on because I realized a couple of weeks ago that I never got a letter with my grades for the Spring. Good thing I did some rooting around because apparently they don't write you your grades. They post them at this school online access site and you have to go look them up. They didn't advertise this nor did the professors ever say this to me/us at any time I can remember. But anyway, I still have some pre-requisites to take for the vet tech program I'm thinking of going into fall 2008, so I looked those up and did some grimacing.
I'm going to see if I can get out of two of the requisites. One is a biology or zoology and the other is writing composition. Considering I have a Bachelors of Science in bio and at one point I took the zoology course just because at one of the other community colleges, I'm hoping to get out of that one. Again, I've taken a zillion courses for my Bachelor that requiried writing, including a writing course, so hopefully I can get out of that one too.
Two others, I wasn't sure about and since I need to take at least 2 classes in the fall, I figured I'd take them. One of them is hilariously easy. It's a computer literacy course that assures competency, essentially, in using MS Office 2003. AND I can do it as an online course. rotfl
The real surprise, though, was the other class. That was the one that made me really grimace because it's a speech course. I HATE public speaking. In high school I was a total mess when it came to the speech component of competing for Academic Decathlon. My coaches/teachers pretty much crossed me off as providing the high score in that category. lol Over the last decade+ I've gotten over it and my shaking, shaky voice, and stuttering aren't much noticeable, but I still abhor it.
Oh, so the surprising part is that they offer the speech course as an internet course. O.o Turns out they just give a bunch of reading/writing assignments you email the prof and then you have to go in and give 4 speeches (one of which is a practice one where you introduce yourself in 2-4 minutes) and you're done. Oh and that course is finished by mid-Oct instead of mid-Dec. YES.
Seriously, community college is such a joke. And to think my mother wanted me to go to community college instead of Notre Dame. :-O
