Yesterday saw the government spending review. Ironically, just a few days before, I'd finished a much better variant of the theory section for the shock therapy article on Wikipedia. It proved to be really helpful in thinking about it because I had all that theory fresh in my mind at the time, and I'd done a much better job of sorting shocks into useful categories, so my brain could sort the spending review quickly into the relevant parts and come out with an opinion straight away. Also, I wrote a lot about governments who didn't tackle difficult spending decisions and then tried to print their way out of their debt, so I'm exceptionally well versed in all the Bad Things that will happen if spending doesn't come under control.
