Remember
the (in)famous eBay haunted painting? It was painted in 1972 by artist Bill Stoneham, and while likely not haunted it is an interesting painting (note, "As I recall, both the owner of the Gallery where 'Hands' was displayed and the Los Angeles Times art critic who reviewed my show were dead within a year of the show").
Now here's the cool part. After the painting was auctioned on eBay (to a Michigan gallery, I believe), the artist was asked to do a sequel to the original, which he gladly did. Note not only the change in style but the subtle change in subject matter and subject depiction.
That second image makes me smile. And not a happy, 'Oh, it's so lovely!' smile. No, it's the smile full of knowing and teeth that's ready to grab a gun a go for it -- through the window and through the brambles, away from the broken doll who is losing her facade and into the unknown other worlds.
I wish I could commission a third and make it a triptych.
I also wish I was a better painter. Someday, studio space and practice. Before too long, I hope.
