Friday: Hairspray -- The Movie. I liked it in spite of myself. Some of the John Waters camp was eschewed in favor of Broadway camp but I still found it to be enjoyable and in fact almost cried at one point, to balance out my laughter. Sadly I feel as though the audience completely missed the genre boat. It was a hard movie to watch in such a dead/nonresponsive theatre.
Weekend: Cable TV and lots of alone time, which was both good and bad. Overall I'd rather not talk about it and instead say that time is a great equalizer (or stabilizer).
Monday: Hilary, David and I hunkered down to watch one of David's Maryland acquisitions. I believe it was called Dynamite Warrior. It was directed by the same guy who did Ong Bak and we THOUGHT it had Tony Jaa but instead starred a reasonable fascimile thereof. It ended up being a pretty decent movie, with much more plot and intrigue than one would think. It was about Thai Cowboys. Quote of the night, "Jesus Christ it's a tiger, get in the rocket car!" Cure ROFL. Occasionally I can still be witty.
Tuesday: We did not in fact get to watch 'They Live' and instead were subjected to 'Renaissance' -- an animated French film with the voice of Daniel Craig. The premise wasn't bad except that it was stolen from Blade Runner. The pacing was so slow that Hilary and I lapsed into daydreaming whilst David and John cleaned the kitchen. The animation style was neat at first but became hard to watch. It was stark black and white, with no gray and little shading. The movie looked so promising from the preview but most people ended up wanting their 105 minutes back.
I have a Dr. appointment today and am hopeful that I can get a script for something to control the PMDD. Hilary wisely pointed out that I only hit the really BLACK depression once a month and that there is actually a treatable medical condition called PMDD, which is like PMS full of evil poison. Hopefully my Dr. will be kind and I can get something for it.
Also on the docket for the week is taking my guitar down to George's Music and asking them nicely to restring it for a righty. With a DECENT instrument at my disposal (as opposed to Dad's 35 year old Nitro with the warped neck and crap pickups) I'm theorizing that I'll be more motivated to play. Anyone know any good tab sites?
Watch this journal for some art posts. Shocking, I know. I scanned a few things from my Moleskine and I'll be grabbing some stuff from my dead art journal. I'm trying to find my safe, happy creative headspace again and the best way to do that is to start small.
