Title: The One That Got Away
Pairing: Yunho/Jaejoong
Disclaimer: Real people belong to themselves. So I really don't own anything.
A/N: Based on the Filipino movie "My Amnesia Girl" and could be considered as a sequel to N.B.S.B.   But it could also be a stand-alone fic, I think. This is also unedited and unbetaed, so I apologize for any mistakes I made.
Summary: For Kim Jaejoong, his first boyfriend didn't end up to be his last. Until said first boyfriend a.k.a. Jung Yunho came barging back in his life.

Chapter 8:

There were a lot of different scenarios playing in Kim Jaejoong’s head right now.

Scenario One: “YOU BASTARD! YOU ONLY HAVE THE GUTS TO ADMIT THAT TWO YEARS AFTER THE FACT? I WAITED FOR YOU! YOU WEREN’T THERE WHEN I NEEDED YOU THE MOST! IT DOESN’T MATTER ANYMORE! JUST GET OUT OF MY LIFE AND LEAVE ME ALONE!” Then the look on Yunho’s face when Jaejoong tells him he’s known all along.

Scenario Two: Jaejoong punching Yunho’s other eye (the one without the black eye.) Then kicking him. Where it hurts the most. And then continue punching and kicking the daylights out of Yunho until he wouldn’t be able to move anymore. Or walk, he really doesn’t care which comes first.

Scenario Three: Jaejoong slamming the door in Yunho’s face and never talking to him anymore. Yunho can wait outside all he wants and it wouldn’t do him any good. Let the bastard rot in hell for all he cared.

Scenario Four: Crap! Crap! Crap! Why is he telling me this now? He’s not supposed to tell me this; bastard’s not the type to admit this type of things easily. How will I react now? I’m supposed to have amnesia; you’re ruining my plan, you bastard! And you already made me lie to Junsu and Hyukjae too, how could you? Don’t tell me all this is for nothing now?

Scenario Five: Maybe it’s time to make good his threat of castrating Yunho?

(As one can see, there was no scenario that involved Jaejoong listening to what Yunho has to say.)

“Jaejoong?” Yunho waved a hand in front of Jae’s face. Ever since his revelation (because there was really no other way to describe what he just confessed otherwise), Jaejoong had remained frozen, not moving at all. “Jaejoong? Are you okay? Jaejoong? You’re not breathing! You’re turning blue! Breathe! Jaejoong-ah! Breathe!” Yunho was holding Jaejoong now, as he patted the latter on the shoulder. “Okay…that’s it…easy…breathe slowly…”

“Get away from me!” Jaejoong snapped as he pushed Yunho’s hand away. Yunho almost fell to the ground due to its force. Jaejoong glared at him, eyes flashing. “Who are you to just barge in here and tell me these things and just -” Jae didn’t get to finish his sentence as he threw his fist in the air. (He had done scenario one and was about to do scenario two now - maybe he should just do all?)

Yunho caught his fist mid-air. “Listen to me,” he said as he looked at Jaejoong in the eye. “Please, Jae?”

“Why should I?” Jae struggled to move his fist and finally punch Yunho but Yunho’s grip on his arm was too strong. “What difference does it make? I don’t remember anything! I don’t remember you!”

“Even if you don’t remember me, it’s obvious you’re still affected!” Jae stopped struggling. Yunho released him from his grip. “Do you think you’re the only one who got hurt, Jae? That it wasn’t painful for me too?” (It hurt Yunho that Jaejoong doesn’t remember him; the memories they had shared, good and bad; the love they had for each other. Yunho had treasured each and every one of his memories with Jaejoong, even after they had separated because it was the only time he had felt so much in love.)

Jaejoong snorted. “You said so yourself - you left me at the altar. You ran out of our wedding. Obviously, you didn’t love me enough to go through with it.”

“No, I love you too much.” Yunho took a deep breath. “And that’s always been the problem.”

“Too much?” Jaejoong said incredulously. “What, and you didn’t think I love you too? I was going to marry you, bastard! I was willing to spend the rest of my life with you! What part of that wasn’t enough for you?”

“I was your first boyfriend, Jae! I was the only person you were ever with! How can you be so sure that I was the one you wanted to spend the rest of your life with?”

And that was it. After all these years, Yunho finally had the courage to admit the main reason he had ran out on Jaejoong. It wasn’t only because Yunho was filled with insecurities of not being able to make Jaejoong happy; it was more of Yunho being afraid that Jaejoong made the wrong decision of marrying him, because there wasn’t anyone else. How could Jaejoong be sure of Yunho when he didn’t have any choice in the matter to begin with?

Jaejoong took a deep breath. (He was shaking right now.) “God, you’re stupid.”

“I know,” Yunho ran a hand through his hair. (He’s never talked about this before. Not to any one, and especially not with Jae.) “I, you were the one for me, Jaejoong. I knew it the moment I realized I love you. I didn’t want to let you go and I wanted to make you happy. But was I enough for you? You were different, Jae. You’ve never been in a relationship before I came along. Your first kiss, your first date, your first boyfriend, your first anniversary, your first meeting with the parents, your first confession, your first wedding proposal…Jae, all of them was with me. The only thing I wasn’t was your first love and there’s always going to be a part of me that wished that was me too.”

“And you didn’t think it was the same case for me as well?” Jaejoong asked incredulously. “Did it ever occur to you that maybe, just maybe, that I love you enough to be able to share all those things with you? That I never needed anything else or anyone else because having you with me was enough?” (“You have no idea how much I wanted to be your first in everything too, but I was glad that I could be your last.”)

“But you don’t know that for sure!” Yunho insisted. “I didn’t give you a chance to be with anyone else, so how could you-”

“So you wanted me to be with someone else?” Jaejoong wanted to strangle Yunho right now. How could someone who claims to have graduated from one of the best universities and be praised for his business skills be this idiotic?

“No! I just wanted you to make sure!” Yunho looked at him in distress. “I just wanted you to have a choice before you married me, Jaejoong. And if you came back to me at the end of it all, then that means I’m really the one for you. That was what I realized when I was watching you walking down the aisle. I didn’t want you to make the wrong decision.”

“How selfish can you get?” Jaejoong spat. “You’re only thinking of yourself, damn it! Didn’t you ever think about me? How I felt? About how I would feel after you ran away? If you were so unsure, why in the world did you ask me to marry you in the first place?”

“You said it yourself; I’m selfish.” Yunho replied. “I didn’t want to lose you, Jae. I wanted to give you a choice and wait for you, but if you didn’t return, I was determined to win you back.”

“You’re…” Jaejoong was running out of words to say. How did they end up like this? “And now? Why are you telling me all this now? Why not then after the wedding?”

“I’m a coward. I wanted you to have a choice, but I didn’t want to be there when you do it.” Yunho chuckled pathetically. “I didn’t realize how much of a mistake I was making until I came back and I couldn’t find you any more. It was then that I knew I had ruined the best thing I ever had. I regretted it; everything I did, but it was too late and I couldn’t even apologize because you were gone. And then you appear after two years and can’t remember anything and just…”

“So you were going to take advantage of me? Of my amnesia, to worm your way back into my life and give you a chance?”

“No! Well, that was the initial plan, but…” This time, it was Yunho who took a deep breath. “I’m not going to lie. I want you to be with me again, Jae.”

(“This is the time to break Jung Yunho’s heart, Joongie!” Hyori-noona’s voice said in his mind. “Look, he just admitted that he wants you back!”) “If you think -”

“I’m going to try my hardest to make you fall in love with me again,” Yunho said in determination. “And if this time, you choose Kim Hyunjoong over me, then I’ll try my hardest to be okay with it. Because at the end of it all, your happiness is all that matters to me, Jae.”

Whatever it was Jaejoong was supposed to say flew right out the window. With his mouth wide open and huge eyes blinking, Jaejoong slammed the door on Yunho’s face. (He did proceed to scenario three after all.)

What in the world?

“Is he still outside?”

Jaejoong peeked through the blinds of his window. No one was waiting outside his door anymore. “No, I think he left already.” It had been three hours since his confrontation with Jung Yunho. Jaejoong fell down to the ground and huddled, pulling his knees up and tucking them to his chin, while talking to the cordless phone. “Noona, I don’t know what’s going on anymore.”

“That’s understandable, considering what happened.” Hyori told him. “But really, Joongie, I’m amazed you still haven’t blown your cover after that.”

“I’m not sure how I managed to do that either,” Jaejoong replied wearily. “Noona, how can he be so…ugh! You have no idea how much I want to choke him to death. Actually, if he can disappear off the face of the earth, that would be good too. Wait, maybe I should have really castrated him? Or maybe -”

“This is not good.” Hyori cut off her brother before Jaejoong could finish his plans of putting a certain Jung Yunho to death. “You have to get hold of yourself, Joongie.”

“He makes me furious, Noona! I can’t believe he ran away from the wedding because of such a ridiculous thing!”

“That’s the problem, Joongie. You’re still affected. You’re angry because of what he did.”

Jaejoong huffed. “I have every right to be!”

“Two years ago, yes. But you should not feel this strongly about the matter now. If you’ve really moved on, you shouldn’t feel this much anger or reacted so strongly. I expected you to have been indifferent at the very least or just not feel anything at all.”

“What are you talking about, Noona?” Hyori seemed to be talking in circles and Jaejoong doesn’t get it.

(It wasn’t that Hyori had not expected this when she persuaded Joongie to pretend. It was just that she thought Joongie would handle it better now. It appears that she might be wrong in that aspect. Her brother might have grown up, but he was still a child with regard to certain things.)

“You still have feelings for him, Joongie, whatever it is. You wouldn’t be so angry if it doesn’t matter anymore.”

“Your jealousy actually brings out the truth in you. I’m impressed.”

Yunho scowled. “I liked you better when you acted like I didn’t exist.”

“Who said I’ve stopped?” Changmin asked. “I can’t believe Jaejoong-ssi just slammed the door to your face. Getting you another black eye would have been much better, in my opinion.”

It had only been a day after Yunho’s confrontation with Jaejoong. To be honest, out of all the things Jaejoong could have done, slamming the door to his face was the least Yunho had expected. After waiting at Jae’s door step for almost an hour and the door remaining closed, Yunho had decided that Jaejoong needed time and it would probably best to give him that for the moment.

“Why are we discussing Yunho’s love life or lack thereof anyway?” Yoochun interjected. “Is it really more important than my wedding with Junsu?”

Junsu nudged him. “Yoochun, you were the one who brought it up first. You wanted to know what happened to Yunho’s visit to Jaejoong last night.”

“Yeah,” Hyukjae nodded. “Besides, it’s actually more interesting than making your guest list.” He frowned. “I still don’t get why I’m needed here, by the way.”

“Me too,” Yunho said sourly. He would have preferred to be locked up in his office and throwing himself at work instead of being here in Cupid and Associates helping Yoochun and Junsu plan for their wedding. He glared at Changmin. “Isn’t this part of your job? Why should the best men have a say in the guest list anyway?”

Changmin rolled his eyes. “If you remember, you also dragged Yoochun with you to help you and Jaejoong-ssi make the guest list for your wedding.”

“Don’t remind me of that,” Yoochun groaned. “Their guest list was crazy. Jaejoong has a lot of sisters who have a lot of friends who had to be invited because Jae’s sisters would kill him if he didn’t.”

Changmin pursed his lips. “Jaejoong-ssi’s best man disliked Yunho didn’t he?”

“Kim Kibum?” Yoochun snorted. “I think despise is a better term for what Kibum-ssi felt. He wasn’t smiling the whole time we were talking about the guest list. It was scary.”

Yunho cleared his throat. “So, about this guest list, are you going to invite your teammates, Junsu?”

Hyukjae groaned. “This is going to be the noisiest and loudest wedding I’ll ever be part in.”

“Hey!” Junsu glared at Hyukjae. “It won’t be that bad. I’ll just sit them to the farthest pew at the church so that the noise would at least be moderate and reserve for them the bar at the reception so that they won’t interrupt any of the guests.”

As Junsu proceeded to make the guest list with Hyukjae and Yunho’s help, Changmin smirked as Yoochun gave him a high five under the round table.

“Hyunjoong, are you sure this would work?” Seunghyun asked his friend.

“It’s worth a try,” Hyunjoong shrugged as he bowed to the guard at the entrance and went inside the building. Seunghyun followed him. “You seemed a bit desperate when I talked to you over the phone.”

“I just really need to show something to Jae in our meeting next week,” Seunghyun told him. “I can’t believe I’m having problems with the romance part.”

“I thought you’re already done with TOP’s first meeting with G-Dragon,” Hyunjoong said. “Didn’t they meet on a cruise ship?”

“Yeah and it was explosive too! TOP held G-Dragon hostage so he can get away from the goons that were chasing him.” Seunghyun replied. “But I doubt if Jae would appreciate the fact that I used his argument with this guy a few days before as dialogues.”

Hyunjoong chuckled. “This is Jae we’re talking about, I doubt if he’ll even know you based it on an encounter of his.”

“That’s true,” Seunghyun conceded. (Kim Jaejoong was the most oblivious and densest person they know.) “But are you sure that going to a matchmaking agency could help me write my love story?” It wasn’t any matchmaking agency too, it was Cupid and Associates - and even Seunghyun have heard of the agency before. (It wasn’t that Seunghyun wasn’t experienced in love because he have had a couple of relationships before - it was just that he found it weird and awkward to write love stories, having been used to action.)

“I met Jae because of a matchmaking session,” Hyunjoong said off-handedly. “Kibum persuaded him to go to one so that he could write Wasurenaide.”

That was all it took for Seunghyun to approach the receptionist and get an application form. Hyunjoong was watching Seunghyun fill it up when the door to the conference room opened and people Hyunjoong knew stepped out: Shim Changmin, Lee Hyukjae, Kim Junsu, Park Yoochun, and Jung Yunho (in that order).

It was at that moment that Seunghyun looked up from his application form. “Hey! That was the man that Jaejoong had been talking to before.” The statement had been uttered louder than Hyunjoong would have liked and now, the group’s attention focused on them.

The last time Kim Hyunjoong had seen Jung Yunho, it had been at the latter’s wedding with Kim Jaejoong - the person who happened to be the unrequited love of Hyunjoong’s life. (Although as always, Jaejoong had remained oblivious to this fact. Yunho wasn’t, though, and it had always been the bone of contention of both men. And if it wasn’t for Jaejoong and his wish for the two important men in his life to get along, Yunho and Hyunjoong probably wouldn’t have bothered to act civil to each other.)

This time was no different. As Yunho walked to where Hyunjoong was standing in front of the reception counter with Seunghyun, Hyunjoong could already feel the intensity of Yunho’s gaze. “Hyunjoong-ssi.” Yunho nodded his head curtly in acknowledgement.

“Yunho-ssi.” Hyunjoong bowed. “I didn’t expect you to be here.”

“You saw Jaejoong yesterday.” Yunho did not mince words. “Junsu told me.”

“Yes.” Hyunjoong quirked an eyebrow. “Is that a problem?”

“As you’ve already realized, he doesn’t remember anything. That includes you and me and everything that happened among the three of us. And if I were you, I’ll pursue him again. So,” Yunho held out a hand in challenge. “May the best man win.”

Hyunjoong stared at the proffered hand for a minute before grasping it with his own. “May the best man win, then.”

(“Well, he’s really going at it full force.” - Yoochun

“I don’t know if I should pity Jaejoong or be happy for him.” - Junsu

“Wow, this is like seeing Wasurenaide play in real life.” - Hyukjae

“This is going to be interesting.” - Changmin)

(Seunghyun, on the other hand, was pondering if TOP should also have a love rival for G-Dragon.)
