Title: The One That Got Away
Pairing: Yunho/Jaejoong
Disclaimer: Real people belong to themselves. So I really don't own anything.
A/N: Based on the Filipino movie "My Amnesia Girl" and could be considered as a sequel to N.B.S.B.   But it could also be a stand-alone fic, I think. This is also unedited and unbetaed, so I apologize for any mistakes I made.
Summary: For Kim Jaejoong, his first boyfriend didn't end up to be his last. Until said first boyfriend a.k.a. Jung Yunho came barging back in his life.

Chapter 7:

Hyunjoong watched as Jaejoong bid Kim Junsu and Lee Hyukjae goodbye, after agreeing to be part of Junsu’s entourage for the latter’s upcoming wedding with Park Yoochun. Hyunjoong waited patiently by the reception desk as Junsu looked at him one last time before leaving. Hyunjoong nodded in acknowledgement; Junsu hesitated before bowing politely.

(“I was involved in an accident and I have amnesia now. I’m sorry if I can’t remember you,” Jaejoong had said in a rush.

“I’m Kim Hyunjoong,” Hyunjoong held out his hand. There was something in Jae’s voice that seemed a little desperate. “We’ve met before.” He noticed Junsu and Hyukjae watching him; Junsu, with a panicked look on his face, as if he didn’t know quite what to expect. “I’m your boyfriend.”

Junsu choked and Hyukjae had to pat him on the back to breathe again. Jaejoong’s eyes grew imperceptibly wide. Hyunjoong chuckled. “I’m kidding. We met through a matchmaking agency. We’ve been friends for five years now, although we lost contact when you moved to Busan.”

The last part of the sentence was a lie though. Hyunjoong had visited Jae a couple of times in Busan - it was where he also got to meet Lee Seunghyun, another of Jae’s friends and also a writer for Storybook Publishing. Hyunjoong had known that Seunghyun was moving to Seoul to take care of his sick mother. He did not expect to hear from Seunghyun that Jaejoong was also living in Seoul now. Since Jae never told him anything, Hyunjoong had decided to drop by Storybook Publishing to get the details from Jaejoong himself.

“Please don’t joke like that,” Jae laughed to cover the awkwardness. “I don’t really remember anything after my move to Busan. I heard from my family that I was staying in Seoul before though and it was Storybook Publishing that transferred me to Busan.”

Hyunjoong raised an eyebrow but didn’t say anything else. Jae turned to Junsu and Hyukjae. “I appreciate you coming over here and inviting me to join your wedding, Junsu-ssi but -”

Junsu held Jae’s hand. “Please don’t think of me as a stranger, Jaejoong. You aren’t. You’re my friend and I want to share my special day with the people I love.”

Jaejoong bit his lip. “When you put it that way…”

“Dolphin, Jaejoong-ssi is getting uncomfortable…”

“I’ll do it.” Jaejoong smiled at Junsu. “I’ll be part of your entourage, Junsu.”

Junsu hugged Jaejoong. It made Jae feel guiltier than ever. “Oh, you have no idea how much this means to me, Jae! I promise that I’ll get Yunho to stay away from you at the wedding!”)

When Jaejoong returned, Hyunjoong just looked at him expectantly. Jae sighed. “It wasn’t supposed to end up this way.”

“Ah, so you do know me.”

“Hyunjoong,” Jae bumped him by the arm. “Don’t joke. I feel rotten enough as it is.”

“Are you going to tell me or should I guess?”

“Just don’t get mad at me?”

“When did I ever?” (It was true; they’ve been friends for five years and not once have Hyunjoong ever been angry at Jae or become annoyed by the latter.)

“I saw Yunho again and pretended that I didn’t remember him.”

(Jung Yunho was a different story though. It wasn’t in Hyunjoong’s personality to dislike someone, but his relationship with Yunho had always been adversarial at best.) “Why did you do that?”

“Because Hyori-noona has this plan of making Yunho fall in love with me again so I can break his heart?” The more Jaejoong repeated his sister’s plan to others, the more ridiculous it started to sound. The problem is, Jaejoong had already begun the pretense and now it’s too late to go back.

“I see.”

“What are you thinking?” (It was Hyunjoong who had woken Jae up from his stupor when Yunho had jilted him at the wedding. After two months of looking like a complete mess and functioning like a robot, Hyunjoong had finally had enough. He had locked Jae up in a room with him and told the latter to just cry his heart out and that no one would judge him for it. Because after everything that had happened, Jaejoong still had not shed a tear and Hyunjoong believed that until Jaejoong let it all out, the latter wouldn’t begin moving on.)

“That your plan is stupid.” Hyunjoong said honestly.

“Kibum has the same opinion.” Jae took a deep breath. “What am I going to do now?”

“Make sure that people don’t see through your lies.” Hyunjoong replied. “Now, tell me what you’ve done so far. If you’re going to lie, we at least have to make sure it’s consistent.”

“Monkey, don’t say anything,” Junsu warned Hyukjae as the two of them made their way to Yunho’s office. “Just don’t say anything.”

“You’ve already dragged me everywhere and now you want me to keep my mouth shut?” Hyukjae grumbled as he once again followed Junsu. “I’m never going to accompany you on my day off again!”

“Yah! We only went to Storybook Publishing, how can you complain so much?” Junsu opened the door to Yunho’s office.

“You went to Storybook Publishing?”

Junsu wished his voice doesn’t carry so much. He had not even told Yoochun yet that he wanted Jaejoong in the entourage. “No. Where did you hear that? Why would I go to Storybook Publishing? There’s no reason why I should do that.”

“Su-ah, you’re not really very good at lying.” Yoochun slung his arm around Junsu’s shoulder. “And you should know better than to lie to Yunho about anything related to Kim Jaejoong.”

Hyukjae just closed the office door behind him and proceeded to sit on the couch. For once, he’ll listen to Junsu and keep his mouth shut. Besides, it would be interesting to see how his best friend would get out of this one.

Yunho just looked at Junsu expectantly. “So?”

“He’s still working in Storybook Publishing.” Junsu sighed. “I introduced myself and told him that we were friends before and that I wanted him to be a part of the wedding. He agreed.”

Yunho’s brows furrowed. It felt like Junsu wasn’t telling everything. He also wasn’t looking Yunho in the eye. “That’s all?”

“Should there be anything else?” Junsu said defensively.

Yup, there was something he wasn’t telling. Yunho turned to Yoochun inquiringly. Yoochun held Junsu’s face in his hand and stared deeply in his fiancé’s eyes. “Are you sure?”

(People often forget that Jung Yunho and Park Yoochun are best friends for a reason. Both could be absolutely charming when they wanted to be.) “I might have also seen a certain Kim Hyunjoong in Storybook Publishing visiting Jaejoong.”

Baek Seung Jo was Seon Su’s childhood friend. They’ve known each other for so long that Seung Jo doesn’t even question any of Seon Su’s quirks and habits anymore.

So when he saw Cha Bong Goon at the hospital Seon Su was working in, he didn’t even bat an eyelash. Bong Goon was demanding of Seon Su, always pushing the doctor to release him already, claiming that he didn’t need the crutches or the physical therapy to be able to walk again.

Seon Su, on the other hand, was unmoving and seemed to make it more difficult for Bong Goon by ordering him in a wheelchair and not allowing him to get out from his hospital room. It was entertaining watching them, just to see who would give in first and follow the other, but Seung Jo also thought that there was something strange.

It was strange how Seon Su and Bong Goon acted like they didn’t know each other before.

His doorbell rang incessantly. Jaejoong pulled open the door. “Oh, it’s you.”

“Why do you sound not happy to see me?” Yunho pouted. “I came here right after work too.”

“No one asked you to,” Jaejoong sighed. “What are you doing here, anyway?” If he wasn’t careful, Yunho standing in front of his doorstep might become an every day occurrence.

“I want to tell you something.” He’s thought about this ever since Junsu mentioned Kim Hyunjoong this afternoon. Jung Yunho had a lot of insecurities with regard to Kim Jaejoong - but Kim Hyunjoong was probably the only insecurity that Yunho could never ignore, no matter how hard he tried.

“What is it?” Jaejoong leant on the door.

Yunho took a deep breath. (“Before you do anything else, just make sure it’s what you really want.” Yoochun had said.) He looked Jaejoong in the eyes.

“I’m the person who left you at the altar.”

A/N: The chapter wasn't supposed to end up this way but I think my brain got short-circuited because of Jaejoong's Intermodulation Photobook, LOL. Thank you so much to every one who has read and commented on this. ^^ I hope we all have a very Merry Christmas. ^^
