I recently found out that my landlord is going to sell the lovely little beach house I've been renting here in Santa Cruz for the last six months. It's been the perfect sanctuary while I introduce myself to the Bay Area and settle into the start-up pace of production work.
I've decided to leave Santa Cruz, because as a recently official tax paying employee of my company in Sunnyvale, it's in my best interest to lower my spending on rent and gas. I drive about 50 minutes to work each way over a freakin' gorgeous mountain, and to San Francisco about twice a week, resulting in a gas bill of $400-$500 a month.
I've been looking at moving to a variety of locations between south bay up to San Francisco. I'd love to live in the city, but haven't been successful finding much in my price range that meets my needs...parking, cat friendly, not too far from the freeway, fits all my stuff, not in Tenderloin, heh. I'm sure I'll find the right spot, and it wouldn't surprise me if it happens at the last minute just like every other home I've ever found. I'm open to a roommate, but finding a place AND person to live with doesn't seem likely given that I'd like to move in a week and I'm working full time.
My mother was up for the weekend to visit. We had a marvelous time driving around the peninsula and hanging out at the beach here in town. We drank gin and tonics, saw dolphins swim by, and finally got to talk in person on a level only shared by a mother and daughter and best friends. It was a gorgeous weekend, and I was reminded of why I chose to move to Sana Cruz in the first place.
I'll miss listening to my little water fountain under a clear sky full of stars, surrounded by the ocean breeze. I'll miss smelling pot as I run along the opal cliffs, watching the surfer bros ride by on their bikes, surfboards in hand. I will miss this home, and I'm grateful for the priceless perspective it's given me.

I miss all of my Seattle friends, and I can't wait to hear about all the new things in their lives when I come visit this Summer!
