Go-Quiz.com so i've ben reading quite a bit of feminist literature lately (no negative comments greg, i know what a feminist you truly are!). first is "inspring women: a celebration of herstory". i love this coz it's just women's stories, plucked from everywhere, and they take u through the whole history of canada from various woman's perspectives. here's my favourite excerpt so far, this is taken from one pioneering woman's experience with her first childbirth:
"I was out feeding the cattle when I felt my first pain. Well I kept on feding the cattle, feeding the calves...I was still sick. When that was over I came back to the house. I had to chop my own wood. Well I finally fixed my bed and I was getting ready. I made a big fire andI opened the oven so it would be warm in the house. I kept getting worse and worse. Finally my daughter was born. All alone, I got up and fixed her up...I had to clean myself up..Made some more fire. Well I was there for three days in bed and I got up. Well in the meantime my husband came home. He had ben on a spree for three days and came back drunk." -Mary Augusta Tappage
i also read a lecture about women in engineering. it started by looking back at the murders of the 14 women who were engineering students at l'ecole polytechnique in montreal on dec. 6 1989, and talked about what must be improved, not only in engineering but in society. good quote from this article "feminism is not an employment agency for women; feminism is a movement to change relations between people to more egalitarian, caring, and non-hierarchal patterns. Feminism provides a way of life that our society, I feel, desperately requires and that we need to practise."
well said. so i'm gonna go read some more feminist stuff...then what should i read after that? man today has been a lazy day, all i've done is played sims and read. oh well, i'll enjoy it while i can...starting tomorrow i'm working 6 days in a row!
