I think the average person is decent looking because a large portion of people (more than 50%) think they are better looking than average. so a lot of people's mindset of what average is, is lower (uglier) than the actual average. thus, it's likely if one saw an average person, it'll be decent looking; better looking than one's idea of an average person.
