黒白と生死

I heard the other day that black used to symbolize life, because rich soil is black. It's kind of an interesting idea, and the more I think of it, that seems to make sense. Black storm clouds aren't really bad in terms of life, especially if there's a long drought. I don't mean like light and dark, I mean the colors themselves. I can't really think of any reason why the color white would be a symbol of life or goodness. I think the biggest thing is winter. Winter is not the liveliest season, with things hibernating and dying. Yet everything get's covered in white snow for a forth of the year. Then, what color do people and plants turn when they're dead, dying, or just not healthy? It's not black. When someone is pale and almost white you don't exactly say, "You're a vision of health and life today."
In that conversation, he mentioned how Mary used to be drawn in all black because of this. Along those lines, God being the light in the dark doesn't really seem to make sense. It's usually thought to be a little more difficult to find God than that. And a bright white light isn't pleasant to look at in complete darkness. Light actually seems a little deceiving to me. It's kind of like someone standing out in the open being like, "Look I'm right here, I'm good, you can trust me." In terms of humans and actions, people that try to make their good acts known, are probably doing acts of kindness for that attention. Then there's the people that are do things like help someone, and try and make sure they don't know who did it or don't tell anyone if they do know. That in my opinion is much better. It's the ones that hide in the shadows. I guess it's usually thought that people that are "evil" hide themselves, but if they hide themselves then they at least know that they're doing something wrong.
One other thought. Things that stay out in the sun too long, get bleached white. Things that stay in the darkness don't turn black.
