I'm having a hard time figuring if I want to trasfer to the University of Hawai'i at Manoa, or not. So, I decided to share my Pros and Cons list with the world of LJ, and I would love to hear what you guys think about it. Keep in mind, the educational part is very important... but spiritual, mental, and emotional growth is something that is the huge factor that is mainly influencing this whole ordeal.
So here it is:
Ringling School of Art and Design:
Pros
Thorough photographic technicalities learning
Better chances of a job placement
The school has better recognition and reputation
Swimming lessons with Dren
Cons
Uninspiring environment
I hate the people here in Florida
I might become a more edgy/moody person
There’s not a whole lot to do around here
Super Con
* It’s really expensive to go to Ringling, and yet, there are photographers out there who are doing SO well, and have not had to go to expensive art schools. In FACT… most of them, did not even major in photography, and only took one or two classes in school, and just happen to do well. Some people have not even had any additional college, and are doing exceptionally well. Why? Because they are getting out there into the world, and are delving into it.
University of Hawaii at Manoa:
Pros
Very motivational environment
I can take a dance class and learn the hula. Whoo!
Get more comfortable in the water while I’m living there
A LOT cheaper than Ringling
Embracing environment with an attitude and vibe that I DO want to rub off onto me to help me become a better person
More photographic opportunities: surf, land, people, animals, etc.
Good weather all year round
More academic basis other than just art art art
Get away from Florida
24 hour fitness!!! Hahahaha
Friendship basis already achieved
The school has a swim team
More photographers might travel through here to possibly meet and learn from
Not as many old people - more kids here
Jessy and I can be a support basis for each other
Finally, a place where body boarders are more commonly accepted
Island music = love
Cons
Minimum learning
No job placement guarantee
Hawaii isn’t the place to move to when you’re trying to progress and move ahead in life. It seems like the place to be when you’re trying to take it easy and really learn how to enjoy life, day to day.
No job = you’re screwed. And it’s hard to find a job
Hard to find a place to live
More expensive living costs
Commuter life
Moving away from the parents
Crowded surfing
Tourist!
