Callie and Arizona had been sitting at the coffee shop for almost two hours now. None of them had realized how fast time was flying by. And all they did was talk. They had talked about everything that came to mind, surgeries, patients, family and friends, the upcoming holidays, pretty much everything. Well, considering the fact that they had barley talked over the past three weeks they had a lot of catching up to do and Callie as well as Arizona had been missing the company of their significant other greatly. But there was one thing they didn't talk about. One thing they could't talk about. Not yet. And that werr their feelings. For some reason none of them wanted to push the conversation into that direction. They both knew that going there would only cause the pain to return again, and neither Callie nor Arizona were willing to jeopardize their current intimacy and togetherness, which had been missing from their lives for so long. Not only during the past three weeks, it had been gone before, vanished into nothingness when all their problems had started.

And because of this reemerging familiarity it physically hurt Arizona to say what she was about to say. She yearned to stay, stay in this little coffee shop. She wished for nothing more than to keep the real world outside, as far away from her, from them, as she possibly could. She wanted to remain in this save haven where, for the first time in weeks, maybe even months, she felt secure and warm and comfortable, and not like being caught in a never ending nightmare of lonely, sleepless nights in which she woke up, her body longing to feel the closeness of Callie's cuddled up in her arms. For the first time in a very long time she felt like she was being offered a sanctuary where all the heartache and emotional pain couldn't get to her. And yes, she was very aware of the irony that it was Callie who, on the one hand had caused all the emotional distress, but on the other hand was the one person being able to present her with an opportuniy to escape from it right now, even though just temporarily. She didn't understand it herself, and honestly? It confused her beyond eveything. Maybe it was a good thing to leave now. Maybe it would help her to talk about this with her freind Susan. After all Susan was the one person who knew her best, and surely she would be able to help her shine some light on those confusing feelings.

„Calliope, I am so sorry, but I have to go soon. I am going to meet my friend Susan. We made plans to do some early christmas shopping.“ Arizona said, releasing a deep-drawn sigh from her lips. For a while Arizona had seriously consdidered cancelling her plans with Susan. However, after giving it some more thought she had come to the conclusion that she wouldn't cancel plans with friends for Callie anymore. She had been doing that too much for the past couple of months during their relationship. No, Callie could as well see that she still had a life of her own and that she wasn't totally depending on her. Nonetheless, when she saw the disappointed expression on Callie's face she was very tempted to give in. She wanted to spend more time with Callie. But no, she had to leave now. It was like Callie had said earlier, they had to take things slow.

Despite of her disappointment Callie knew Arizona was right. „Will you meet me at our spot for our date?“ she asked. „Can you make it tomorrow afternoon at two?“

“Sure, I can do that.“ was Arizona's response when her curiosity overwhelmed her. She knew any attempt to hide it would fail miserably. And although she actually knew the answer before asking the question, she still had to try. „Is there any chance you will give me any hints as to what it is I will have to prepare myself for?”

“Uuuuhm, let me think about this for a minute” Callie said with a sassy smirk on her lips, pretending to really give this some kind of thought. But Arizona already could tell what the answer she was about to receive from the woman sitting in front of her would be. “The answer to that would be a definite no, BUT, however, there is one thing I can safely tell you, I promise you, this will be the first date of that kind for you.”

Callie’s smile grew even wider and in addition to that her eyes got a sparkle and that made them shimmer with happiness and anticipation. Arizona found it to be rather impossible to resist her girlfriend’s beautiful face and full red lips, which curled up in that absolutely mesmerizing smile. Oh god, her lips. It was almost impossible to NOT kiss them.

Oh what the heck Arizona thought. Why am I fighting this so hard? When was the last time I have kissed those amazingly pouty lips? Damn it. She couldn’t even remember. Well, then it was definitely too long ago. But before she could give kissing Callie any more thought the memories of their last kiss came rushing back to her. It was when she had moved out to stay with her friend Susan. After she had read Callie's SMS to Erica, after this horrible outburst of emtoions, when things had escalated and they had decided to take a break from each other. All of a sudden she was reminded of the feeling of loss she felt when she had thought it could have been the last time she was kissing Callie. The possibility of loosing Callie forever had never been more evident than in this situation. She couldn't recall ever having felt as helpless and scared as in this particular moment. Her high and her joy faded away from her in an instant and all the horrible memories and feelings came flooding back into every cell of her body. Something just changed.

Arizona had been shipped out of her save haven within seconds. Turbulences seemed to have appeared out of nowhere. Emotionally she felt like a snow storm was coming up.

The transformation in Arizona’s behaviour, gesture and mimic didn’t go unnoticed by Callie and she saw with sorrow that her girlfriend tightened up. “What’s wrong? What just happened? Are you OK?” she asked with concern.

“Uhm, sorry, it’s all good. It’s nothing. I just remembered something. Something that’s not so nice to remember” Arizona mumbled, more to herself than to Callie. She couldn't really hide her emotions. And she didn't try anayway. And even if she had tried, her eyes would have given her away nevertheless. She silently cursed her inability of hiding her emotions from Callie.

Of course Callie could sense it had something to do with her and she felt incredibly sorry that she was the one responsible for Arizona’s mood change. A closer look at Arizona's eyes confirmed what Callie had suspected.

“Listen Arizona, I know you probably remembered something I did to you. But I promise you, I will try my best to make you forget it, at least for the time of our date.”

Callie's voice was filled with so much love, concern and honesty. Arizona recognized so much warmth, emotion and solicitude in her voice that she just had to believe her. And she wanted to believe her. She wanted it so bad and she knew she couldn’t forgive herself if she didn’t at least let Callie try.

“Oh one more thing” Callie said while she was preparing herself to get up, “Wear something warm and comfortable. Oh, and also, you’ll need gloves and heavy winter boots, nothing too fancy please.”

“Calliope Torres!“ Arizona was very thankful for this change of topic. She actually couldn't wuite believe how fast the butterflies found their way back into her stomach. She was curious and intrigued and she wanted to know what was going to happen tomorrow. „I now demand to know what you are planning to do with me, or to me, or…damnit, Callie, stop grinning like that. You look like and idiot. Tell me!” Arizona couldn't believe she almost stomped her foot in frustration. Damn it. Why could Callie get to her that easily?

“I know you want to know, and I know you are not a fan of surprises. But where would be the fun if I told you now? I really don’t want to spoil the surprise” Callie said, totally being aware of the fact that the really was smiling like an idiot. But frankly? She couldn't care less. Seeing the adorableness that was Arizona, stomping her foot in frustration was so totally worth everything.

“I think we already have established that surprise and I don’t necessarily go together very well.” Arizona replied pretending to be mad and offended. But an almost invisible hint of dimples appeared on her face. And maybe every other person would have missed them. But Callie didn't. Of course she didn't. How could she have missed them? Just like she could identify Arizona's emotions by a short look into her eyes, she always recognized even the lightest appearance of the dimples she learned to love so much.

“I know” Callie replied “but I think this one is going to be OK. Do you think you could maybe trust me on this one?” she asked hoping Arizona would.

Letting out a long and heavy sigh Arizona nodded and tried to put on a reassuring smile. She really wasn’t sure how she felt about all this. Yes, it was what she had hoped for. But still, something wasn’t quite right yet. Yes, she really needed to talk to her friend Susan about this. She was too confused. She needed another opinion.
