I'm working on getting my hand-me-down tall server, Glenrowan, outfitted with a Windows 98 system. I discovered that the problem was that the Win 98 startup disk I had was messed up. I made a new one and it worked. For some reason, the main disk drive I have is messed up as well and not fixable by fdisk. The second drive I installed started ( Read more... )

Uhm, just need to let y'all know that my computer kicked the bucket this weekend -- HARD. Details later on from school computers -- this is David's (very nice) laptop I'm posting from right now.

It seems 'Rasputin' lives after all. I still can't get an operating system installed on the damn thing though. I'm planning to hit the computer show in Valley Forge this weekend and pick up a bare-bones system and necessary components.

Death occurred at 10:05 pm. ScanDisk found an unrepairable physical error on the disk. MS-DOS gave a General Failure error during a directory command, and upon rebooting, the system returned a Disk 0 Error.

It's possible the other 500 meg drive has some functionality. I suppose I'll give that a try

Been spending the evening getting the study (the room my brother & his gf moved out of last year) into shape.
