Kitchen Renovation - Before & After Pics

Aug 08, 2011 13:35

All that's left on the 'to-do' list is the under cabinet lights. HOORAY!

As promised, I took a bunch of pictures of the kitchen renovation. We're still unpacking the dining and living rooms or I'd post pictures of it, too. (Those will follow when the rooms are in order.)

(All pictures are clickable if you want to have a closer look.)

The kitchen - before

This is the kitchen before the renovation. The 'U' shape meant that only two people could comfortably work in the kitchen at once. The layout of the kitchen was also awkward because the fridge and freezer doors, when opened, blocked the only path in.

The kitchen between days 2 & 3

With a week long break when they didn't show, we decided to take down the doors of the cabinets, remove the hardware, and keep them for ourselves.

End of Day 4

The kitchen at the end of day four, after it had been gutted. All that's left is the flooring to rip out.

And this is the kitchen now. This is a view of it as taken from the dining room.

The is a view of the left hand side of the kitchen.

Left of the kitchen as facing it. The fridge caused ungodly amounts of trouble. First, the cabinet they ordered to go above it wasn't deep enough so there'd be no way we'd be able to reach it without 9 foot long arms so they had to take it down and build a small frame behind it. Then, the doors on the cabinets were too long because they were running into the hinges for the fridge doors. Then, once all that was clear, the water line for the ice maker leaked, destroying the newly laid flooring. Finally, everything came together though. :P

This is the short countertop to the left of the fridge. Mom picked out 3x6 subway tiles as the main backsplash. She also ordered those two onion and potato containers from Chef's to snazz up the spot.

And here's a full view shot of that short counter. The weird looking thing hanging down above the bananas is the electrical cords for the undercabinet lighting.

This is a view of the right hand side of the kitchen.

And another view

And this is the right side again, this time facing it. You can see my new, apron sink. It's one of my favorite features because it makes it *a lot* easier to clean big pots and pans. I can just set them in the sink and scrub away or let them soak if they need it.

And another view of the kitchen...

This is a close up of the gooseneck faucet Mom picked. It also makes it easier to clean pots.

The area to the left of the sink used to be a dead zone because, once something was put in that area, it was hard to fish it out again. Now, we've got a lazy susan at the bottom which makes storage a lot easier. The cabinet at the top in the corner has a door that opens and unfolds so you can get to all the crockery there.

This is the right side of the island. The big drawer is large enough for cutting boards.

And the built in cookbook bookshelf. It's a nice feature to have in the kitchen.

The is the end of the island closest to the stove. My sister loves baking, but didn't get to use the kitchen aid much since she'd have to lug it out from under the counter. Now, it's sitting on a shelf that swings up like a pendulum. And, since it's already plugged into the back of the socket built into the cabinet just for the mixer, it's all ready to go!

The short cabinet next to the mixer houses the cookie sheets.

The microwave now has its own little cubby off of the counter.

The pantry has heavy duty, steel pull out 'drawers' which makes finding things a lot easier.

The pots also have their own, flat pull out drawers.

As do the muffin tins and casserole dishes.

The glass, mosaic tile backsplash

And the star of the kitchen is the glass, mosaic backsplash above the stove.
