Dad + NaNo update

Nov 03, 2010 17:59

Dad still looks like hell, but they got him up and moving. He can walk about three feet before wanting to collapse. They also have him practicing getting up and down out of a seated position. His face went positively gray when they tried that. He was in so much pain.

There's talk of releasing him tomorrow or Friday with a nursing assistant here to help him. Personally, I don't know that he's ready. Yes, people heal better at home, but there's a lot more doctors and nurses at the hospital able to help him should he need it. At home, it's just us and the nursing assistant.

*sighs*

Apparently though, because this surgery is really serious business, medicare has to abide by the patient and the patient's family's wishes. If we don't think he's ready to come home, then we can decide for him to stay longer which is a plus. We found this out from the nurses at the hospital. Apparently, there was some sort of a lawsuit or something so now, every day that Mom goes to visit, the nurse hands her a paper that says basically that and the nurse repeats it verbally to make sure that both Mom and Dad understand.

And now a NaNo update: I wrote 3,189 words today bringing my total up to 10,939.

Today's scene was between Draco and Ollivander. All 3,189 words. It turned out really good.

I've finished chapters 1-5 and am currently working on 6. Tomorrow, I'll be finishing off chapter 6. Seven is finished as well so I'll be moving on to chapter 8 after that. Chapters 1-4 and 7 were completed during the 2008 NaNo when I worked on this story before, and, no I'm not counting the old stuff in with the new stuff to reach my 50,000.

This story is moving along nicely as is my NaNoWriMo'ing. I'm not racing through it like I did the previous years; I'm taking the tortoise rather than the hare approach so as to not stress myself out with everything going on. The story is sitting at about 75,000+ words.

And, on a totally unrelated note, I finished knitting Dad's Christmas present on Monday. I'll post pics as soon as the sun cooperates and gives me enough light to get some good shots.
