Surfing American radfem blogs (knowyourenemy yadda yadda), I can never cease to be amazed over how people can think that the Swedish Model is a good thing. For those lucky enough to stay out of sex politics: it's when selling sex is allowed, but buying sex and pimping is forbidden. People link to articles like Opposing Prostitution As a Form of Read more... )

jag mår fortfarande dåligt av tanken om prostitution, men artiklarna hade relevans och var övertygande.

Varför ska man INTE kunna få tjäna pengar på att göra något som man tycker om?

I read the Spice Girls article. Very interesting.

Reading the CMC one right now. Okay, I'm skimming, really, but the author seems to have many interesting points.

It's funny how the author of the Spice Girls-column sees the band as the cause rather than a symptom. It's also interesting how people point out the dark sides of gender equality, like how girls drink more these days. What did everyone expect? That women would only pick up "positive" male behaviour?

I agree with her that the Spices reflected a lot of bad values to be admired by their targeted age-range, but they certainly didn't start this trend! The initiators never make it big; they must have had a built in market to do what they did. But it's easy to denounce them, as they were a flagship for "Girl Power" and are well-known cultural icons that embody what she's railing against.

I'm pretty sure that hard drug use is still more prevalent in males than females. Drinking is still pretty tame compared to what teenage girls COULD be doing.
