What Makes a Camden?

Been a while, eh? I guess I kept a low profile online for the past week. I've been tired and lazy, and there's really been very little to report anyways. Just been doing the same old thing... work, the gym, food, sleep. Nothing too exciting.

I did have my eye examination on Thursday, and good news! My eye sight hasn't changed in the past two years. Unfortunately, the place I went for my contact renewal last time no longer accepts my insurance. So now I have to find another place to go. I better do it quickly too, because I'm in desperate need of fresh contacts.

I suppose you're expecting more fangirling over my tv shows for the week, but so many of them are on hiatus, that there's really not much to say. 24, Heroes, NCIS, and Lost were good this week. Check out pyjamagurl's February 28th entry (and my reply) to read some of my thoughts on Heroes and NCIS.

Before I move on to a new topic, I have a fun quiz to share, and if you're into Sci-Fi then you might enjoy it.

You scored as SG-1 (Stargate). You are versatile and diverse in your thinking. You have an open mind to that which seems highly unlikely and accept it with a bit of humor. Now if only aliens would stop trying to take over your body.

Yesterday, I went to a memorial service for my mom's uncle. I really didn't know him at all unfortunately, but it just made me think. (Surprising, huh?) Anyways, I thought about my own grandparents, the celebration of the lives of our loved ones, and so on and so forth. But it did seem quite awkward to me that there we were being happy about something sad. It's like a conundrum to me. What are we supposed to be? Glad or sorrowful? I guess death is just one of those things.

The service also made me think about my ancestry. Yes, it's a wee bit of a leap, but last night, I was determined to figure out my ethnicity in terms of fractions or percentages. Here's what I came up with...

On my mom's side, I am mostly French Canadian (so I'm also half French Canadian). I am 1/64 Chippewa Indian, and I've known that for quite a while. (I'm proud of my teensy Native American heritage. Haha.) I did just find out, however, that I have some hint of Scottish or Welsh blood in me. My mother had been told that my great-grandmother, who I called Nanny when she was alive, was at least some part Scottish. I tried looking her up on ancestry.com and actually found out more information. Her last name was Kenison, if you're curious. I only found one link to Suffolk though, as most of the information ended in the States or Canada. (Interestingly enough, some woman on ancestry.com had been looking my great-grandmother and her ancestors up. Unfortunately, though, she was only active in August of last year, so I don't know if I could get a hold of her even if I wanted to.)

On my dad's side, I am basically German. Sort of. It kind of depends how you look at it. 1/4 of my blood comes from Germans in Russia. So essentially, they were German. At one point in time, they had moved from Germany to Russia and then to the States. I have more information about that, but that's the basic gist. I am 1/8 German Swiss. What do I mean by that? My ancestors came from the German portion of Switzerland. So is that considered German or Swiss? I guess it depends how far back one wants to go. And lastly, I am 1/8 German German, which is obviously fully German.

So there you have it. That is what makes up my ethnicity. Oh, one more interesting thing to mention. I have one set of great-great-great grandparents from the Basque area who were second cousins. (Not that this was totally uncommon back then.) But anyways, maybe this is the explanation for my weirdness. Or perhaps that's just me. :D
