Day 12

Apr 15, 2009 18:20

Today was a clear triumph in the construction process. Single-handed I cut the top plate and studs for the last wall section and nailed them together - achieving a perfectly square frame on the first go! It helped that I had two other squared-off walls to use in laying out the last frame. I pushed the frame into place and nailed a couple temporary braces along the top. Clamps are holding the sides to the adjoining walls. All 3 of my drill batteries (it's a pretty shitty drill, to be honest - I've gotta scrape up the money to get a Makita) were dead today, so I couldn't do any of the attachment work necessary to fix it in place. I've got batteries charging now, so tomorrow I'll fix the last wall in place and then put up the plywood. After that, all that remains for major construction operations will be the roof. I almost have a workshop!

(Got myself a couple times trying to toe-nail in those cripple studs over the door.)
