You are a robot, then? How very interesting.

IT REALLY SHOULDN'T BE.

Whyever not? Among all the organic humanoids, there are perhaps a handful of androids, I believe, but I was not aware of any non-humanoid sentient robots before this time.

I find your presence in Edensphere to be quite fascinating, really.

IT IS UNIQUE. "INTERESTING" IS A WORD PEOPLE USE WHEN THEY ARE GOING TO DISMANTLE YOU.

[Pause]

Yes, quite. I see your point. Unique, then.

My name is Fred. What is yours?

SKYWALKER. I'M ALSO CALLED BEEP.

[ ... Unfortunately, he is also not a master conversationalist. ]

It is lovely to make your acquaintance, Skywalker. [That name sounds ever so slightly familiar, but the sense of familiarity is so subtle she barely notices it.] Or do you prefer Beep?

EITHER ONE. I PREFER SKYWALKER, BUT YOU CAN'T USE IT AROUND BEN.

JUDGING BY YOUR USE OF ADJECTIVES, I'D SAY YOU'RE SOME KIND OF SCIENTIST?

Noted.

I suppose I would not reject such a title, but my job in Edensphere is to find things in the Scavengers' Yard and repair them as best I can.

THAT'S A JOB? I WAS RECRUITED INTO RESIDENTIAL MAINTENANCE IN VERY SHORT ORDER AFTER ARRIVING, SO I DIDN'T DO MUCH LOOKING AROUND.

YOU THINK THEY'RE LOOKING FOR PART-TIME PEOPLE?

I don't see why not, but you will have to talk to Bridge to make such an arrangement.

He is a cheerful organic humanoid who is nearly always covered in some sort of grime from the Yard, and accompanied by a robot dog--who seems to make every noise known to man, with the exception of the sounds one might imagine would come from a dog.
