I really butchered "Uptown Girl" during hospitality house karaoke yesterday night. (The song backing kept changing into wrong/weird keys! And also I was singing, period.) Billy Joel would not have been proud, but it's possible that drunk driving Billy Joel would have been OK with it; the rendition of "Big Shot," I think, was a much better choice. But good company and "Don't Look Back in Anger," "Ring of Fire," "Criminal," "Lovefool" (!), and "Linger" smoothed out any lingering embarrassment.
My boyfriend left for Japan on Thursday while I was at work. The situation is pretty much the reverse of last summer's: this time he's the one who's there-not-here for two months. I'm still doing karaoke, but just in America, standing up, and not sitting in some plush Japanese booth. I also saw him all the time up until my Thursday lunch break ended, while last year we were more isolated to different parts of northern Virginia (nothing more to say there). Even though I have the restful/stressless summer I always want during the school year, I can't keep my mind off of other places.
For clicking past the cut, you can share in on a song that pops into my head and out of my mouth pretty often (speaking of embarrassment):
