My first trip into the Nexus was an uneventful one, though at least I had Sari to help me understand the place a little better and Ratchet to warn me about those...LOL things. All of this is so foreign and strange to me, but Optimus Prime and his crew have been trying to help me adjust to life on this planet as best they can. Part of me is still a little nervous about being so close to so many organic lifeforms at all times, but I believe it's just the old laws gnawing at the back of my processors. Back on the Revelation, we always wished we COULD get closer to organic life to better study it and now that I'm actually somewhere that I can do so, I feel slightly skittish about it. It's just...silly.
Unfortunately, it seems the the last encounter in Detroit with the Decepticons really ripped up part of the city, especially near Sumdac tower. I have been trying to help with structural repairs as I can, though Ratchet did find the time to take me out to the island in Lake Erie to visit the downed shuttle. It's stuck in the side of a crater on the island, but is more or less still functional in terms of basic on board equipment. We accessed the shuttle's scanning equipment and conversion chamber so I could be fitted with a new alternate mode, though since we had time to putter around a bit, I actually got to choose my new mode. The other Autobots ended up taking what they could when they first came out of stasis, as they had an emergency situation to take care of, but I knew I would need to be rather careful with my choice because I have the rare capability of flight, yet a frame that's smaller in mass than most Earth transports that actually fly. In the end, I think Ratchet was very surprised with my choice; the SkySpy scanners picked up on a small species of bird at the Detroit zoo that, like me, are relatively small and fast. With a few adjustments to the conversion chamber, we were able to convince it to set me up with the alternate mode based on those small avians, called "Swiftlets."
I think it was that trip to the shuttle that I realized finally that Earth for the time being really is "home." Even though the All Spark has been scattered, Prime and his crew have no real way to return home. They feel they have a responsibility to the people of Earth to protect them from the Decepticons and I want to assist as much as possible. Optimus has allowed me to stay in his base of operations and granted me my own quarters there. Hopefully I can help monitor their communications set up and become a decent assistant to Ratchet with what medical training I do have. He has expressed interest in teaching me more so that we are not always so reliant upon Sari's key for our repairs. And Prowl has designated himself my guide when I am assigned to patrols. The pair of us are roughly the same size and the only two who can actually remain airborne for any length of time, so we work well together. ...I just hope he does not get fed up with all my questions after a while.
