So last year, there was Rosemary and Rue, which I reviewed at my old journal (
Here) and this year (yay!) there is the sequel, A Local Habitation. It's out now, guys!
First things first, so there is no doubt: I love this book. I don't know if I love it more than the first one, but I love it at least that much. It was good. Toby remains kickass, and Tybalt remains the best snarky bastard ever. EVER. Ever. And my favourite character- somehow he wormed his way into my good graces despite appearing on like, five pages in Rosemary and Rue- got a lot more screentime and has absolutely lived up to his potential.
The minorer characters were also awesome. I didn't like all of them, but that's not required. They were vivid and even the ones we didn't really 'meet' had lives outside their plot points. I want an Elliot.
As to the plot... well, I can't say a lot without spoilers. The mystery was harder to figure out for me than the one in Rosemary and Rue. It wasn't shocking when it came out- it made sense, which is good. I enjoy being able to follow a villain's reasoning, even if it is a bit crazypants.
A plot twist that I didn't expect to be resolved was, which was an interesting choice. I can't wait to see what happpens with that in the future.
And bweeeee there was this one scene where things happened and I was like 'ohmigod' and then I was like 'OHmiGOD' and then I had to stop reading while I flailed quietly in the cafeteria. Seanan's fairies are so so fascinating.
Then I read the preview for the next book and am now wondering why the hell it isn't September yet. *sigh* Faster, move faster, oh time in thy flight.
In conclusion: Read this book or I will be very upset. And your cats will tell on you and you REALLY don't want that, do you? Cats remember everything, after all.
