summary: Daltonism: also known as deuteranopia, or red-green color blindness. Affects 1% of males. (Her symbolism has always been lost on him.)


“What does it look like?” He asks, leaving himself vulnerable, leaving himself exposed. She considers him with gray eyes that see too much, know too much of what’s inside him, and maybe that’s why he’s asking, exhausted and hoarse, sitting on the packing crate as she cleans his cuts. Without speaking she tips her head and lifts his unresisting hand, bringing it to her cheek.

“Like this.” Leaning gently into the contact, her warm skin smooth under his callouses. “Like this.” Touching the open cut on his mouth with her other hand, fingertips brushing blood across the inside of his lip.

He looks back at her, this warrior goddess who has painted his world since he met her, and realizes all along she’s swathed it in red.
