So, tonight was pretty much perfect. :)
After work I went over to Jon's to relax and wait (rather impatiently) for Emily and Matt to get there. That was very nice though because I haven't actually gotten to hang out with Jon in many days because of stupid work. Once Emily and Matt got there though (yay! I missed Emily lots!) we headed out to Ribfest, in the rain. After we parked and started walking, some nice people driving by stopped and offered us their ponchos, which was very nice of them. The fabulous thing about the fact that it was raining (not hard, more of a steady drizzle) was that Ribfest was practically EMPTY, which is totally bizarre for the Fourth. We seriously waited in line for ribs no more than ten minutes, when in the past its taken up to an hour. So that was awesome. So we sat on our blankets in the rain and ate our ribs, followed by elephant ears, roasted corn, and cotton candy. Mmm. :) Aside from the fact that it was a little chilly, the rain actually wasn't that bad at all. Another cool thing was that instead of the normal pseudo-country-pop music that they have, there was a Big Band! It was really fun, they played a lot of fun classic jazz stuff like "Chatanooga Choo Choo" and "Sing, Sang, Sung". So we sat around and watched the sky clear (and a really big rainbow appear) and took pictures of each other with our phones (which oddly caught on with people on the blankets around us) and chatted about the bum that broke into (no, walked through the unlocked door of) Matt and Dave's apartment. Fun fun.
Then there were fireworks! I know this probably shouldn't be exciting to me anymore, but it always is. Especially since this year Jon and I had to race back to the blanket from the cotton candy stand just as they were turning all the lights off, which brought back memories of being grounded for the same situation when I was ten or so. But yeah. As always, the fireworks were really good and well-timed. I especially like the really sparkly gold ones. Maybe I'm just easily amused, but I've always found something to be really magical about firworks. In the past this was the same reason they always made me feel really lonely too... but not this year... this year, only good feelings. Which was a nice change.
Afterwards we gave Emily and Matt the tour of our corner of Naperville, which pretty much included pointing out Jewel, Hollywood Video, Waglreens, Meijer, Steak 'n Shake, and the haunted cemetery. Somehow this tour made them want to move to Naperville. (??) Lake Zurich must really suck. ;-) (just kidding)
So yeah. This entry probably made tonight seem really ordinary, but to me it was so much fun, and so perfect. Best friends, good food, and fireworks... not a whole lot more I could ask for. :)
