Ow! Sehun shrieked as he fell backwards. What the fuck did you do that for?
You're a dick, dude. I'm surprised no one's done that to you before, Kai shot back, but then he was being shunted to the side to talk to an imposing man in a suit. What the--
What's your name, son? the man in the suit asked. His voice was gruff, a bit of a no nonsense attitude about him, and as he reached into his pocket, Kai felt apprehensive. Then he relaxed as the man pulled out a checkbook.
Kai spelled out his name slowly and with a loud tear, the man pushed a check into his hands. This check is for $100,000. Enjoy dance class, the man said unceremoniously, and then he was walking off the stage. Kai stared at the check in his hands, addressed to him from SM Entertainment. Holy crap, this was really happening.
When he turned back to look at the SM Dancers, they were already gone. He could see their heads bobbing along above the fence railing as they got into a black SUV and the car sped away. Again, Kai stared at the check in his hands as if staring at it would make it seem more real to him. One hundred thousand dollars. Even as he thought about that hip hop class he had been hoping to take for years now, even as he thought about buying new dance shoes, he realized with a thud that this money wouldn't go toward dance classes. It couldn't. He had college to pay for, his family had a mortgage, and rent, and bills.
Kai folded the check haphazardly and stuck it in his back pocket. He'd worry about that later. For now, he'd enjoy the glory.
----------------------------------------------------
I'd like a Kai Special. Kai looked up from the register and was greeted with a punch to the face. Keep the change.
Ow! Now Kai was the one to fall backwards. He cradled his nose in his hands but it seemed to be okay. He pulled his hands away tentatively.
You're not bleeding, relax, Sehun snapped, rolling his eyes. You princess. He leaned forward and smirked at Kai. So, Kai, now you're a bigshot dancer, too. Welcome to the club. He stuck his hand out for a handshake.
Kai gave him a scathing look in reply. Are you going to order something? Because if not, bye. He reached under the register for his phone and began to sort through his texts, all the while ignoring Sehun's stare. I said bye.
Fine, I'll order something. I liked the Kai Special last time, so can I have that? Sehun asked, throwing a bill on the counter. Kai, with an exasperated sigh, stood up and grabbed a waffle cone, shoving a scoop of mint chocolate chip ice cream and a scoop of pecan pie inside. He thrust the cone at Sehun, who took it, his fingers lingering on top of Kai's as they exchanged the ice cream. Kai felt an involuntary jolt, a spark of some sort, but he suppressed it as he punched the register so violently the key stuck. Keep the change. I really don't need it.
Kai pushed the bill into the register and rang up the extra money for his tips even as Sehun stared at him. When Kai met his eyes, Sehun licked the ice cream cone once and said, Thanks. Kai shrugged and reached under the register for his phone again but Sehun wasn't leaving. He stood there, licking his ice cream cone at least two times before asking, So what dance classes are you going to take?
Kai wasn't really in the mood to make conversation with him, but it seemed like he wouldn't leave unless Kai responded. I don't know yet, Kai said with as much disdain as he could manage. Why wasn't this kid getting the hint? Kai didn't want to talk to him.
You're a really good dancer, you know. Are you trained at all? Sehun asked. Kai shook his head, hoping that this would be the end of it, but Sehun continued. Mm, too bad. You'd be a great addition to our group. Really sharp and clean with your dancing. Sehun paused to lick his ice cream again, and Kai let the compliment sink in, a slight blush creeping up his face. Plus your legs are ridiculous.
The smile slid off of Kai's face. Was Sehun...insulting him? One look at his face said otherwise. Oh god, was Sehun....flirting with him? T-thanks, Kai sputtered, now turning a delightful shade of red. He cleared his throat and looked around the store, but both his coworkers were on their breaks. Ahem.
Mercifully, in that moment, the service entrance door smacked open and his coworkers walked in, the faint smell of cigarette smoke wafting through the store. They looked over at Kai, who took this opportunity to motion them over so he could take his break, too. As soon as they walked over to the register, he nearly sprinted to the service entrance door, pushing it open. But before he could escape from Sehun and his weird comments and his stupid lisp and his incredible dancing, Sehun was standing in front of him, blocking his way to the boardwalk. The ice cream cone was nowhere to be found; Kai supposed he had finished it or disposed of it or something, because whatever it was really didn't matter.
Do you mind? Can you get out of my way? Kai barked, stalking forward to push Sehun aside, but he was too tall, and no matter how Kai maneuvered, he couldn't quite push Sehun away. What the fuck is your problem? I don't want to talk to you. Just get out of my--
Suddenly, Sehun was pushing him backwards up against the brick wall of the store, and his lips were on Kai's, kind of sticky from the ice cream. He tasted like mint, nauseatingly sweet, and Kai felt his knees go weak, his head spin. Sehun's arms were around his waist and he was pressing up against him, his lips tracing circles round and round Kai's, and when he pulled away, Kai was the one to reach forward and resume the kissing. Then, abruptly, tongue in his mouth. The minty taste of Sehun's mouth, the soft but insistent pushes of his lips, the warm feeling of his body against Kai's - it was some perfect aphrodisiac and Kai never wanted it to end.
When they finally pulled apart, Sehun took a step backwards, his chest heaving and his lips slightly plump from all the kissing. Kai took a minute to catch his breath before shouting, You're a little shit, you know that? Then he launched himself forward to kiss Sehun again.
