I love birthdays, not hurricanes!

Yeah...my family in Houston (which is most of my immediate family and then some) that live in Houston are doing well! I will be off to visit them in 1.5 weeks. I have been so worried ever since the news had been covering Hurricane Rita. I was watching three different news stations simultaneously basically all the time. I never knew that I could watch that MUCH news about the same topic.

Speaking of news, Joe and I were talking about how little coverage there is about all the killings and death in the civil wars of Africa (maybe one small article in the back page of the Sunday paper) unlike countries that the US deems important (front page about garbage). People are so unaware what is really going on in Africa or the Middle East...I could go on, but I won't.

Pulled of my mother-in-law's surprise birthday kidnapping. Her kids and grandkids (us) kidnapped her this Sunday and took her to StarBucks and then to the train station that headed to San Diego. There she found more of her offspring and we spent an awesome day in downtown. We took her to that Mexican Dive that Joe and I went to last time we were in San Diego (the one with the HUGE margaritas) and pigged out on yummy Mexican food. Now I have to finish planning my sister-in-law's surprise b-day party (2.5 weeks away)...I love birthdays and I have started a tradition with my in-laws (one that Kori and I created in college) of birthday week!

Well off to get back to my never ending Multicultural Self Awareness Paper before the kids wake up.
