UNIONIZE?

Oct 11, 2006 13:25

I had to steel myself to attend a union meeting today. I really don't like my union or the things it forces on me. I also don't like the concept that most employers hold. These are the subjects I will rant about in today's post. (This is probably familiar to the majority of you so you can stop reading now since this is often a topic of my rants)

Today's meeting was a way to placate the masses by giving us a glimmer of hope on not having increased health insurance premiums next year. "The Administration is considering an increase in their portion to offset the increase in your personal contribution if we go with company X over our current company." What does this mean? It means here have some vapor candy. Come Jan 1. this won't exist but hey at least you held it in your hand for 2 months when it was useless.

so now I have to face the fact that I will be responsible for an additional $300 of my insurance. I am not pleased, I would be livid if I was on a family plan since they are changing the those so that the full amount of the deductible is usable by 1 person instead of the previous plan where an individual on the family plan was capped at half the total deductible. (if that makes sense to anyone great!)

secondly, why do I have to be stuck in a chair for 40 hours a week when my output isn't measured in the number of cogs I made or the volume of calls I made. I work with bits and data making pretty pictures so that others can figure out what to do with property in the real world. So when am I going to be able to work from home or work when I please or just get a set salary for my brain time and not the chained to a chair time.

Someday I will get paid for my degree, exp and ability to work from anywhere not just my cell in a building in a town that generally doesn't even know I am there.

that is all.
