it's a protected entry but this is what i just emailed to a friend:
Completely un-tour-related, but just because so many people on my friendslist are affected by this: [info]shakeupsnow02 comes through with the numbers to back up my optimism. She posts:

Why I'm Heartened Right Now:

It's the math, guys!

61.4% to 38.6%

That's how much Prop 22 passed by. Remember Prop 22? Most of us weren't even old enough to vote yet.

The Supreme Court overturned Prop 22, a proposition that was supported by 61.4% of the voters.

4,579,386 to 2,897,689.

4,579,386 people said NO to equal rights the last time around.

This time, 4,841,736 said YES, by voting no.

52% to 48%

That's how much Prop 8 passed by. If the California Supreme Court was willing to say no to 61.4%, to say THAT WAS WRONG to 4,579,386 people, they can do it again.

5,319,905 to 4,841,736.

Those who are against equal rights for all gained 740,519 voters supporting their cause. Those who believe in equal rights under the law gained 1,944,047. Almost 2 million people to their 700,000.

The passage of Prop 8 doesn't mean the this is over. It just means they've managed to delay it for a while.

It's all about the long view, you guys. Also, as I commented on her post: "the other thing to remember is that xenophobic ballot measures are just a weird fluke of california politics designed to rile up the idiots during years when they'd otherwise not bother voting, and that just like always -- remember prop 187? let's deny education to the children of illegals? hey, think of all the problems that'll solve! -- the cali supreme court will quietly knock it down six months later as the unconstitutional nonsense it is."

Don't cancel any wedding plans.
