Ryou’s POV
“Have you found her?” I asked Shinji-san for the nth time that night.
“Obocchama, we still haven’t, but there were some informants that told us she that her car went eastward.”
“After that, is there any progress on locating her?”
“Unfortunately, no there were no more traces of her after that information. The men are already heading east and some are still looking out here in case that the information we got was wrong.” I pressed a hand on my temples and rubbed them. Haruka just got out from a coma and here she was missing. I know that I would be dead when my parents, brother, and sister-in-law arrived, but right now I don’t really care. The only thing I need is to find her, and for that I need the most resources that I could use. I scrolled through my contacts and called.
“Hello?”
Sho’s POV
It’s been hours since I left her, and now I’m just a mess inside my own home. My carpet is probably already run down from all the pacing I have done since I have arrived back. Something just didn’t feel right. I tried to sit down the sofa again and turn the tv on. I flipped through channels and stopped at a movie, but my mind wasn’t into the movie. My mind returned to the woman that I loved and hurt badly. I just wanted to prove to her that I still loved her and that I want her back. However, I knew that this wouldn’t be easy. If it were, then things wouldn’t have escalated this badly. I lied down the couch hoping to travel to dreamland, but in the process was interrupted by the shrill ringing of my phone. The urge not to answer the phone was so great that it would probably tantamount to my urge to get Haruka back, but I knew that the possibility of the phone call being important was high. I flipped the phone and answered lazily.
“Hello?”
“Sakurai-san, this is Haruka’s brother, and I need your help.” My senses suddenly became alert. His voice sounded urgent and I couldn’t help but worry if something happened to Haruka.
“What is it?”
“Haruka’s missing. She took off about an hour or two ago, and my resources aren’t enough to find her. I know that you know a lot of people and probably ones that could help us. I need you to help me in searching for her. Right now, her health is still questionable and we need her to back in the safety of our home. Can you help me on this?”
“I certainly will! What did she bring with her when she took off?”
“She had nothing except her old car.”
“GPS?”
“She removed it.”
“Have you looked for her in her apartment?”
“She wouldn’t be there, because she knows we’ll look for her there. However, I already asked someone to look for her there, but there was no trace of her.”
“Have you found out anything on where we could trace her?”
“Yes, there were informants that told us she was seen heading towards the east.”
“I believe that some of your people already headed there. What’s the result?”
“No one has seen her yet.”
“It appears that she has quite the ninja skills.” He muttered something that I couldn’t clearly hear.
“Okay. I’ll have some more people look for her and give you updates. Please send me information regarding the car that she used for her getaway.”
“Okay.” Then he hangs up.
‘I knew there was something wrong going on.’ I thought to myself
I started to dial every one of the members and told them what was happening. They told me that they will help and even our managers were going to help. I then dialed the person that I think could help us the most. One ring, two rings, three rings, and on the fourth ring he answered.
“What could I do for you, Sho-san?” answered a very familiar elderly voice.
“Johnny-san. I need your help.”
“On what?”
“I need your help in searching for Haruka.”
“Haruka?” He asked in confusion, but I knew he wasn’t so innocent.
“Johnny-san, I know you have been tracking me and my moves. I wouldn’t put it past you to already know about her.” He laughed.
“Of course, of course. I knew I couldn’t fool you. So, why are you looking for her?”
“She ran away from her house, but her brother is fearing for her safety and health.”
“It sounds to me that she’s trying to hide and doesn’t want to be found though.”
“Johnny-san, if you’re thinking that this can’t benefit you, then I know for a fact that you know that it can help you and your business. Not only will you be in the good graces of her family, but also your business and theirs might be on good terms.” I heard him chuckle lightly.
“I see that you have calculated this well. I will help you, but not because I will benefit from it.” His voice sounded sincere that I trusted him.
“Thank you so much, Johnny-san!”
“Don’t rejoice yet. She still has yet to be found.”
“I understand. Goodnight and please call me for updates.”
Hanging up my phone, I knew I needed to go out and search for her already. I wasn’t sure that I could handle myself well before and now that I have so many people helping, I couldn’t help but feel a little bit more at ease. I grabbed my keys and locked the apartment and headed towards my car. It was when I sat in the driver’s seat that I realized some things. I had no clue where on she could be. I had no clue if she is safe. I had no clue how she is. Once again, I felt helpless.
Haruka’s POV
Waking up in a stranger’s spare bedroom didn’t feel as strange as I usually would. Instead, I felt at home and safe. It is in this place, that I felt like I have a rightful place. I don’t know why I’m feeling this way, but I just wanted to live in the present. I sat up from my bed and hugged my legs to myself. I wanted to savor the last moments that I will be here. It was just an over night, nevertheless the stay removed all the worries from my shoulders. Now that the time to leave has come, I couldn't help but feel sad. This homey feeling was what I longed for, and was never given. Life didn’t just throw curveballs at me, but it does so with passion.
I placed my arms on top of my knees and rested my head against it. It was then I realized that there was a strip of gauze on my right hand, where the IV was formerly attached. I should be scared that he came into the room while I was sleeping, but oddly, I don’t. Instead, the gesture made me smile, for the first time ever since I woke up. I walked to Troy’s bedroom and knocked twice before he opened it.
“Good morning.” I greeted him. He didn’t look like he just woke up, but his voice was still hoarse as he replied, “Mornin’.”
I raised my hand. “Thank you for this, and also for letting me stay in your house even though I’m someone you just found on the street.”
He shook his head. “It was no problem at all.”
“I should be heading back now. I just wanted to tell you that I really appreciated your help and bid you farewell.”
“You’re already leaving? Stay for some breakfast before you head out.”
“As much as I’d like to take you up on that, I should really get going. My family must be out of their minds by now.”
“Okay, if you insist.”
“Can I have a pen and a paper?” In five seconds, he was back there with me. I scrawled my contact number and email address, and gave it to him.
“I know we aren’t close or even acquaintances, but you let me stay in your house and as a token of my gratitude, please contact me anytime that you need help in anything. I’ll do my best to help you.”
“There’s no need for this. I didn't help you to get anything in return.”
“I know you did this out of your kindness, but I just want to repay the kindness that you’ve shown me.”
“Okay then, but before you leave I’ll just fix you a sandwich. You might not feel it yet, but I have this inkling that you might pass out while driving because of hunger.” I nodded and let him do his thing.
With a plastic bag filled with two sandwiches on hand, I turned the doorknob to go back to the outside world. The world filled with hidden evils. There was nothing to look forward to in going back to my old life, but it’s time to man up and face reality. Even for a short while, this home provided me with the comfort and safety that I have long forgotten, and as I am leaving it, I can’t help but feel sad. Stepping my foot one in front of the other, I’m psyching myself back into the numb me. A me who’ll face the world on my own. A me who’ll learn to live by herself. Lastly, a me who’ll never feel anything again.
