Ginny waved to Travis as he left the restaurant. She declined his offer to take her home in favor of trying to sober up with some water. Besides, she so rarely went out any more that the thought of going home to sit alone on the couch in her flat was depressing. She did decide to switch from their table to the bar. That way sitting alone wasn't

The red hair was impossible to ignore as Harry walked inside the pub. He had been looking for a place to sit, relax, put aside his paperwork and focus on something that wasn't crime scene photos and witness testimonies. Maybe have a pint. Maybe order something greasy and slightly undercooked from the back kitchen. But that red hair- Merlin, he'd know it from anywhere. He'd recognize her from anywhere.
So what was he doing?
His feet were talking him to the stool beside her of their own accord.
Sort of. Maybe.
He couldn't remember the last time he really saw her- the last time it was just the two of them and a horde of nose Weasleys weren't breathing down the back of their necks.
"Don't I know you?" he asked, an halfway sort of smile settling on his face.

And Merlin it was nice to see him. See him with his hair all tousled from running his hands through it all day as she knew was his habit. See those eyes staring down at her with the slightest twinkle shining through and covering the obvious stress he was under. Those green, green eyes. She blinked again and registered that we had said something.
"I'm sorry, what was that?" She asked. She knew she sounded out of it. She probably also looked out of it. Maybe she was more drunk than she thought she was and she was imagining him. Maybe, just maybe, she had finally lost it.

Maybe coming to sit by her was a bad idea. But as he regarded her more carefully, he realized that there was something a little bit different about her.
"Gin?" he asked, the nickname pouring from his lips before he could stop himself. "You alright?"

"Another vodka tonic please. Extra lime." The bartender nodded and started in on her drink. Ginny took a deep breath and turned back to Harry knowing that some liquid back up was headed her way shortly.
"Hello Harry. What brings you here on today of all days?" She decided not to add on the one day I venture out after practice.

"Oh- uh, you know, just looking for a little break," he said, knowing that was the truth. "It's been one hell of a week and with the way your brother snores, I was hoping to find a little peace and quiet."
Choosing a pub for peace and quiet said a lot about how terrible Ron's snoring really was.

"So you're still staying with Ron? No wonder you can to a pub for peace and quite." She took a sip of her drink. So far so good.
She could do this. She could talk to him and be friendly. She could make it through without wanting to alternately snog him and slap him. Of course she could. She just had to take it one word at a time and try not to think about the fact that it was the obvious love of her life sitting next to her yet out of reach. Easy as cauldron cake.
At least that is what she had decided to tell herself even if it was a big fat lie.

It's been five minutes, you wanker- relax.
He took a long gulp from his pint glass before realizing she had asked him a question.
"Wot?" he shook his head. "Oh- of course, you know Ron couldn't ever live with anyone else-" he chuckled. "No one else could take him in."

Ginny wasn't really sure what to say then so she took a big sip of her drink. Being around Harry like this was awkward and odd. She didn't know how to act anymore. They had so much history but their relationship was also like an open wound just starting to heal. Ginny didn't know what was okay to say or do around him any more. "So..." She let the word hang in the air between them, the conversation open and inviting if he just wanted to take the lead.

He had spoke the words nearly the same time she did, his eyes focusing on the pint in front of him. He didn't really know what to say. Ginny was one of the few women to really leave him speechless. He rubbed at the back of his neck, chuckling slightly.
"I don't think I ever properly congratulated you," he said, then, looking her in the eye. "On Captain? Merlin, Gin, it's fantastic-"

When he started to congratulate her on captain she felt herself blush. "Oh, ummm, thanks. It's been really great. I wasn't expecting it at all. The Harpies really took me by surprise." She felt herself smile, a genuine smile, at him. He smiled back at her and for a split second she was transported back to when everything had been great between them. It was like nothing had changed at all.
A second is a long time, especially to someone who had had as much to drink that night as Ginny had. In that second she reacted just as she would have a year ago. She leaned over and kissed him.

She bloody fucking kissed him.
He forgot how much he liked that feeling - her lips on his. For a moment, and moment that felt like forever, he stayed there, letting his body fall into it, just nearly kissing her back before remembering that they were no longer together. And that their break-up had been her decision. And now, here they were, awkwardly small-talking through alcohol and suddenly she was kissing him and honestly, Harry was at a loss.
He was always at a fucking loss with Ginny.
But that didn't mean he couldn't just reach up to brush her hair behind her ear or to cup the side of her face as he felt himself deepening the kiss.

What was he thinking?
He sat there for a moment, adjusting his glasses, stewing like a child when he realized she was getting up and walking away. Just like that-
But then, she was falling and Harry reached out instinctively, wrapped his arms around her shoulder to steady her.
"Gin- hey- how much have you had to drink today?"
His voice was calm, steady- trying to mask the tension he felt in the back of his throat.

"Ummm," she tried to think about how much she had had to drink but her brain was foggy and his proximity was not helping. "Maybe like 10 or so? Travis was here earlier and we had drinks. And food. But mostly drinks. It was nice. He told me about this girl he met. But then he had to leave and I didn't want to go home to an empty flat because, I mean, how depressing is that? So I stayed here, at the bar. Then you showed up..."
She was rambling. She knew it so she let her sentence just fall off. She tried to move away from him and walk away with her head held high. She obviously needed to get away from him before she did anything else as tremendously stupid and kiss him again. But her body betrayed her and she stumbled again.

"Ginny- ten?" he said, repeating her words. "That's- that's a hell of a lot for someone your size," he continued, shaking his head.
But then he showed up- was that it? He frowned. Reaching out for her again as she stumbled.
"Oi- hey- come on, let me help you out here-"
He reached into his pocket, placing enough to cover the tab down on the bar, before moving to get her outside into the fresh air.
