Closed: Harry and Ginny run into each other

Dec 02, 2013 18:05

Ginny waved to Travis as he left the restaurant. She declined his offer to take her home in favor of trying to sober up with some water. Besides, she so rarely went out any more that the thought of going home to sit alone on the couch in her flat was depressing. She did decide to switch from their table to the bar. That way sitting alone wasn't ( Read more... )

Ginny fucking Weasley.

The red hair was impossible to ignore as Harry walked inside the pub. He had been looking for a place to sit, relax, put aside his paperwork and focus on something that wasn't crime scene photos and witness testimonies. Maybe have a pint. Maybe order something greasy and slightly undercooked from the back kitchen. But that red hair- Merlin, he'd know it from anywhere. He'd recognize her from anywhere.

So what was he doing?

His feet were talking him to the stool beside her of their own accord.

Sort of. Maybe.

He couldn't remember the last time he really saw her- the last time it was just the two of them and a horde of nose Weasleys weren't breathing down the back of their necks.

"Don't I know you?" he asked, an halfway sort of smile settling on his face.

Ginny blinked up at him. She couldn't seem to get her mind to wrap around the fact that he was actually there, sitting down next to her, and smiling. What the bloody hell was he smiling about?

And Merlin it was nice to see him. See him with his hair all tousled from running his hands through it all day as she knew was his habit. See those eyes staring down at her with the slightest twinkle shining through and covering the obvious stress he was under. Those green, green eyes. She blinked again and registered that we had said something.

"I'm sorry, what was that?" She asked. She knew she sounded out of it. She probably also looked out of it. Maybe she was more drunk than she thought she was and she was imagining him. Maybe, just maybe, she had finally lost it.

Harry's brow furrowed at her response, opening his mouth to speak but not quite knowing what to say. He raked his hand through his hair before signaling to the bartender for a pint. The older man nodded, bringing out a fresh frosted glass and filling it to the brim before sliding it down toward Harry.

Maybe coming to sit by her was a bad idea. But as he regarded her more carefully, he realized that there was something a little bit different about her.

"Gin?" he asked, the nickname pouring from his lips before he could stop himself. "You alright?"

Ginny laughed. It was definitely Harry. The sound of her name as he said it and the concern in his eyes confirmed it. "Oh good. You're real," She said before turning to grab the bartender's attention. This called for another drink. Sod sobering up! No way was she facing Harry fucking Potter sober.

"Another vodka tonic please. Extra lime." The bartender nodded and started in on her drink. Ginny took a deep breath and turned back to Harry knowing that some liquid back up was headed her way shortly.

"Hello Harry. What brings you here on today of all days?" She decided not to add on the one day I venture out after practice.

Ginny smiled up at him. He was starting to go a little out of focus. She blinked a few times to clear her vision. His grin was adorable. She couldn't help but grin back at him.

Then his words hit her ears. Leave it to Harry Potter to think they were normal. This wasn't normal. Pinning for you ex-boyfriend who you broke up with so hard it caused you to become a hermit for the better part of a year was not normal. Wanting to push him up against the wall they were passing and snog him senseless was not normal. Nothing about them was normal. And that was what Ginny missed the most.

"We're not normal Harry. You know that right?" She said as she moved her head back to look forward. They were getting near to the front entrance of her building and she didn't want to miss it.

"Oh. There's the door." She said with a point. A bright blue door to their left stood under a black awning with the words "Murphy's Point" written on it in a scrowling silver font.

"We're not normal Harry-"

He blinked. There it was again- that brutal honesty. It was one of the things he liked about her the most. There was no second-guessing, no worrying about if what he was saying was working or not. She let him know. Near instantly. He laughed again, this whole situation becoming more and more hilarious to him as they continued on.

"No- we're not," he said, nodding his head. "But my life has never been normal."

It was quite possibly the most absurd thing he'd said all day but it was also him at his most serious.

"Gin- what happened-" he asked finally. "How did we let this happen to us?"

Harry was right about one thing. His life had never been normal. And Ginny liked that about him. His view of things, life, was so unique. It kept her on her toes ( ... )

He did.

But he thought that was what she wanted. He stared at her, not quite sure what to say. There were a million things running through his head but none of them were going to sound any good, he knew. He was rubbish at this.

Getting a girl into his bed? Easy. Getting them out the next morning? Easier.

But feelings and words and Ginny.

He was absolutely rubbish.

He rubbed at the back of his neck, his eyes glancing down at the floor, seeing how they were only inches away from each other. Alright, Potter. This is it-

So, he leaned forward and his kissed her.
