In the Candy Bag

Well, guys, today was the interview with the bossman for the full-time position....and....

I thought it went extraordinarily well.  It lasted only about 15 minutes tops.  He asked me why I wanted the position, what I would change about the university, and what I saw as the biggest challenge in the Welcome Center.  I answered all of them with zeal and utter professionalism. Then, he went on a little spiel about how he is aware that our Welcome Center is viewed as a Complaint Department, and how he wants to work together as a team with the staff to move away from that negativism.  He talked about unity, togetherness, etc....and I nodded in agreement (not just because I was kissing up, but because I was genuinely interested in the changes that he wants to take place within the university as a whole). He then asked if I had any questions for him, and I said I had a comment actually.  I mentioned how I like how CUNY is moving towards a more technology-based approach, in terms of using the Internet to obtain info about the colleges, applying online, and finding answers to the millions of questions students never cease to stop asking. Then we talked freely about my desire to apply to one particular CUNY college, Hunter, for grad school. It so happens that Hunter College is the bossman's alma mater.  He told me to let him now when I apply because he'll make a couple of phone calls and make sure that my application gets reviewed.  Oh, isnt it so sweet to have connections?

In any event, there were four finalists whom the bossman interviewed today, and I was his first willing victim.  He's very efficient, so I imagine I will know pretty soon whether I have this full-time jig in the bag or not.
