today at work
Thankfully, it hasn't been on the news yet.
So this morning I'm minding my buisness and around 830 I see this man with a HUGE bullet proof vest on walk by the window. I think nothing of it because a lot of Cops come into this Doctors office and have their phsyicals done and stuff. The next thing I know Carol (the recptionist) and I see a bunch of men standing around this car in the corner of the parking lot. You have to understand that it's REALLY small lot. REALLY small, and it was REALLY busy this morning.. and again none of us thought anything of it because there was a big PCN meeting going on (lots of people in the office)
So Carol and I are standing there watching these men.. and she's like "I'm going to tell them that they can't park on our lot!" of course I'm like "You go Carol!"
Just as she's headed outside, they all turn around and we see them wearing bullet proof vest.. and now they've got big black windbreakers on that say POLICE on the back of them. All the girls who work in the office including myself, are just standing there looking out the window.
They seemed to multiple.. reeeeally quikcly. They were everywhere. Two ran around one side of the building, then two ran around the other side.. there were unmarked cop cars in the back alley. Undercover cops across the street in the park, up the street down the street,and when Carol came in after talking to one of them.. we found out that there were 12 unmarked RCMP cars on our lot.
That's like half our lot.
This was an operation.
None of us know what's going on and we're all just standing there.. work just stopped for all of us, we just sat there and watched.
They're all going one way, and running around, and then we heard them up on the roof. Finally one of them comes inside to talk to Carol and ask us all a couple questions, and he tells us that the Pharmacy (king west pharmacy) that rents the space next to us in the plaza.. is selling fake drugs.
Oh.my.shit.
RCMP!!
This was huge.
We all just sat there, amazed because all the guys in there are sooooo nice. and the owner, Abader who is from Egypt, is sooo nice and we just couldn't believe he had anything to do with this. Basically. the whole office was in shock.
All the doctors, all the staff, and the poor patients that were in today had no idea what was going on.
So it's about 1030 when we see that THE main RCMP guy, the DETECTIVE is talking to someone in this big car infront. He's sticking his head in and waving some paper work around and then we all realize.. it's Abader.
They took down the Owner of the pharmacy and handcuffed him and stuck him in the back of a car.
We all turned around to get back to work for like 5 minutes, and when we looked up.. they had taken him away.
So, Abader gone, the pharmacy is shut down. They've got CSI with their huge kits, and all these other officers just standing there looking intimidating. They still had them all over the place, the park, up the street, around the back alley. Undercover cops everywhere.
So all we know at this point is that Abader was taken away, and that he's been selling fake drugs.
We later get this rep from the ontario college of pharmastis.. or something like that.. and he brings us this note.
We all huddle around to read it..
it said that the pharmacy next store is selling fake blood pressure medication, and that all the people in our office (the practice has over 10 thousand patients) that go to that pharmacy.. have been getting fake pills. for goodness knows how long.
Oh.My.Goodness.
this is huge.
We have some REALLY unwell people on Blood Pressure medication and if they're not getting their actual medication then they're going to be reeeeally sick.
Oh my goodness.
So we make a bunch of photocopies and give it all to the Docs and we each get our own copy.
We had to hold an emergency meeting at lunch to talk about what we were going to tell patients.. because they can't get their perscriptions filled there anymore.. obviously.
ANYWAYS
The day went on, and they were still everywhere.. going in and out of every thing in the plaza, and asking questions perodically..
They started to question patients if they had gotten their Novacs (bp medication) from next door.. and 15/20 said yes.. they asked the people if there was anything different with their new pills.. if they noticed anything.. and a couple of them said that "the colour was just a bit off" you'd think nothing of it..
minus the fact that when the two girls that work in the pharmacy got back from interigation.. they said that the cops asked if they noticed anything different with the pills, and all they noticed was "the colour was just a bit off"
The cop took one of the guys pills, and took it to the RCMP pharmacist that they had on site.. he said it was a talcum powder pill.
TALCUM POWDER!
not even a smidge of blood pressure medication.
OH MY SHIT
Soooo anyways. they RIPPED the pharmacy apart, and they were ripping through Abader's really nice Mercedez as I was leaving.
it was a zoo
cops everywhere. on the roof, in the file room where i work. just.
EVERYWHERE.
Some dude from CBC ended up being there.. which is why I'm happy it's not on the news.
basically. it was just the most ridiculous day
big men, big guns (i mean guns literally.. not muscles), big drama, big upset, biiiig problems for the practice that I work at.
It was the most intense day.
IN FUCKING TENSE.
We found out later that they've been survelling them for months and months and all this stuff and blugh.
it was just nuts
