Martyrs
As far as French films go, and generally horror films, I recommend you watch Martyrs. Fantastic, if you are able to stomach that kind of thing.
Of the two people I was watching it with:
1. One couldn't stomach watching it, deciding to leave the room at various times to go do something else to distract from the movie, coming back occassionally. Commenting that the movie is just "wrong".
2. Another was half watching it while in the room playing with lillith but still paying some attention to the movie. Commenting that the movie is just "sick".
3. Then there was me. Stuck to my seat in fascination and horrible awe, eyes fixed on the screen in amazement.
Don't get me wrong, I hate horror movies. Usually I'm the "1" from my above list. I hate suspense, blood and gore. Fucking scares me! Omg. But this movie, like Funny Games (did you watch that?), fucked up but I enjoyed it.

Rated 18+. High impact violence and torture themes. (no wonder)
