Graduation day!

Today was my graduation. It was a little tedious, but not as much as I expected. It was good to see everyone, and to cheer for them as they got their (fake, empty) diplomas. Took me for ever to find my parents afterward - had to stand on a chair, ignoring the security guard who asked me to get down before I hurt myself. "La! I am a graduate! I need not listen to authority figures any longer!" I told him. Or thought at him, maybe. He looked a bit confused when I didn't comply, and instead continued to search the stands instead. He hovered a little bit, and then wandered off.

Parents finally located, we drove to a local sushi place, where I wore my mortarboard inside (but not the gown - that thing was freaking hot) and had a Philly roll and jasmine tea. Yummy. My mother ordered a roll with scallops in it, and some squid, but chickened out of eating it when she realized that it was raw. So then we went to a nearby smoothie place, and had some yogurts.

Arriving at home, I went out into the backyard, in full graduation garb while my parents took more photos of me. Then more photos, once they'd put four leis on me, a la Kwajalein graduation (Ha. Ha. Ha). As we were coming inside, a little garden snake, maybe half a foot long, tried to come in the back door with us! My mom grabbed it, and I cooed over it, and we both took pictures of it. When I held it, it crapped on my hand in fear, but then it wound tightly around my fingers in a figure eight - or a symbol of eternity, depending on the way you look at it. It was so strong for such a little thing! Some pictures taken, we let it go out in the garden again. I feel this is a good omen for my graduation day. Snakes symbolize eternity, rejuvenation, and self actualization. All positive things for a graduate!
