Echo of Goodbyes

Echo of Goodbyes

Rain streaked the window
of a dark, cold room
Secrets floated on the air
And fell to rest in the shadows
A cold dreary day began
Another day without him there

Memories began to suffocate me
Closing off my mind
Craving some kind of relief
From this little wrinkle in time

I felt you lying next to me
Your arm holding tight to my waist;
Your whispers in my ear;
You hand upon my face

I felt you pull me closer
As you held me tight to you
I heard you say you loved me
And I said "I love you too."

I turned over to kiss you
And look you in the eyes
All I found was your scent in a pillow
And the echo of goodbyes

My heart sank to my stomach
And I felt my chest get tight
I could have swore it was you next to me
And I wasn't sleeping alone that night

I curled up next to the pillow
As I began to cry
As I remembered what had happened
Haunted by the echo of goodbye
