Why do I always do these picspams when I should be revising for upcoming exams?

Hello flist! I return once more into the land of LJ, with a fairly pretty picspam to ease me back in.

The current challenge over at picspammy is Scenes and Sequences and they've had some seriously gorgeous submissions. My all time favourite scenes have been beautifully picspammed and it's lovely. I knew I could never do something along the lines of Casino Night in The Office or the ending scenes of BSG S1, because my terrible colouring skills combined with my lack of any real software mean my picspams don't come out half as pretty as they do in my head.

Still the real variety of scenes had me thinking about stuff that I don't rank along all time classic moments, but that I still loved and that might slip through the cracks of this month's challenge. The very first one I thought of was this one. (Spoilers through the end of S1)

Ugly Betty is never going to be remembered as one of the world's great television shows. It can be brilliant and cracked out, and it always brings a smile, but it is not classic fare by any means. Still, I think the end of S1 ranks up with some of my favourite finales of all time. I adore this sequence, and to get the real effect you seriously need to watch the clip on Youtube, because so much is about sequencing with the music.

We open on Justin performing in the school play (he was originally understudy, which begs the question, how many freakishly talented kids does this school produce?). Hilda (Betty's sister and Justin's mom) is watching him in the audience, upset that her fiance (and Justin's father) Santos is not there. Unbenownst to her he went to buy a present for Justin and ended up getting held up in the shop.

I never liked Santos. I was at some points ambivient, but mostly I thought they could all do better. Still the way this sequence is orchestrated had me bawling, and I still get tears in my eyes everytime I watch it. When he gets shot (SPOILER) and it cuts to Justin dying as Tony I shiver. It's so well worked. Using Justin's song as a backdrop to sum up all the storylines that have played out over the episode is a stroke of brilliance, and how damn talented is that kid? Gosh.

The true killer in the sequence though, is Ana Ortiz, her reactions as Hilda and her collapse at the back of the hall are so well played. Her sobs underneath the music *sniff*.

Anyway, look at the pretty pictures, watch it on Youtube and maybe shed a tiny, tiny tear for a character that no one really liked anyway.

"Could it be? Yes, it could.
Something's coming, something good,
If I can wait!
Something's coming, I don't know what it is,
But it is
Gonna be great!

It's only just out of reach,
Down the block, on a beach,
Maybe tonight . . .

BANG. I cannot emphasise enough how I adore the symmetry of this moment, with the cutaway to Justin dying on stage. It's just about perfect.

Hold my hand and we're halfway there.
Hold my hand and I'll take you there
Somehow,
Someday,
Somewhere!

Sniff. Okay, also, I'm off to NYC (for the first time!) tomorrow for 3.5 days! It's a birthday trip and I am super excited. I need recommendations of what to do/see/where to eat etc. Obviously my time is limited and I want to see as much as I can, so any ideas would be seriously welcomed.
