So Yesterday I spent the day in the OR with my doctor watching him perform surgeries on some of his patients. It was amazing. I saw 7 surgeries which were as follows.
A 20 month old getting tubs put in her ears. (30hr)
A 2 year old getting his adenoids removed and tubs put in his ears. (30 min)
2 people getting polyps removed from their noses. (45min each)
A woman getting small mass removed from her check (45 min)
And 2 people getting half of their thyroids removed. (2 hours each)
Dr Fuoco allowed me to watch over his shoulder all day and pointed out things to me and explained what he was doing through out each surgery. I was amazed at how good he was, which makes me feel better seeing that he was the one who removed my tonsils a month before. By the end of the day my legs were killing me and so was my back. I spent 10 hours on my feet with no break except for 10 minutes between each surgery. I am going back in a few weeks to see more surgeries that will hopefully be different. Im really thinking that becoming a surgical nurse or a recovery room nurse is were I need to be, but knowing me I will change my mind.
