Part 2- Yard work

Sep 23, 2010 12:02

Of course, all of this looking for Harry, made me realize how much of a complete mess our back yard is.   We need to cut back our forsythia to a more manageable size-it is taking over our other wood pile and is so covered in vines and other growth on one side you can't tell where the bush ends and the other vegetation begins.

And the wood piles.  We have 2 a small one I mentioned earlier by the back door.  It is just two 3x3 pallets together.  We keep kindling, too big or odd shaped wood and wood that we can bring in at night so we don't have to walk across the yard in the dark to get to the big wood pile.  That one has gotten to be the catch-all for the branches, twigs, any wood broken but too big for the stove, pallets we can't use so we burn, etc.  Vines have started taking over it.  I started yanking the misc. wood out and pulling up vines to look for Harry and realized how much wood is really there and how much we need new pallets for over there.  Heck we need them under all the wood piles.

The other pallets are across the yard between the forsythia and the deck.  They are larger, probably 5x5 squares.  There are 4 of them to make one big square.  Each holds about a pick-up full of wood.  We took some wood in March or so, from someone who had cut down a tree so some are big branches, some are big trunk pieces, etc.  This all still needs to be cut to size and split for winter.  Also with vines growing over it not as many because they are mostly on the forsythia, but a lot with stickers.
